Northern Trainee Drivers - Newcastle & Darlington (25/03/21)

Applied 6 weeks ago today still not heard anything from them, a bit strange if people are receiving invitation to interview emails and I haven’t had any communication from them

All I know is when I applied the last time thiley advertised for trainee drivers, I didn't get an invite. I used the same responses to my questions as I did this time, albeit one response.

I received emails saying that my application was being considered when I continuously read about internals being interviewed etc.

I've passed my tests already but that can't be why I've been offered an interview this time. But I have moved slightly closer to the depot, could this be a factor? Who knows.

But until you get told you're not successful you're in the game still. People found out last week they wasn't successful. The recruitment team isn't the biggest from what I've seen. So just hold out.

Thankyou for that, I’ve logged in I haven’t got any outstanding messages, so I guess it’s just a waiting game, weird how everyone is told at different times

Like many others, I've been trying to get in the railway for years. It's hard work.

But I've learnt communication isn't the best in this industry at times, with that being said if you're from Newcastle way, we have many TOCs that use the station/depot.

Obviously the driver roles are popular and obviously there aren’t enough roles for everyone to get an interview.

the candidate part of Northerns job page tells you if your application is still under consideration. So unless that changes, keep the faith.

If you go back a page or two on the thread, I'm sure I read someone saying they were unsuccessful.

The railway works in a mysterious way, but as long as you haven't been told no, you're in the game still.

I think maybe you are reading a little bit too much into this.

At the end of the day, a human sifts the applications and makes a judgement. It's not a perfect system, as with any recruitment process.

I’ve received two updates so far, one to say my application was being screened and another afew weeks after to say due to the volume of applications they are still working through them and will be in contact.
I thought it sounded positive but not so sure now

It's sounds more positive than not hearing anything at all since submitting the application. That's the position I'm in. I'm just trying to be patient I know it takes time

Same here. Log in to Northern and it still says application under consideration

I’ve heard nothing since they said they had my application on the 25/3. Still showing as ‘under consideration’

I still haven't heard anything. Last time I applied, I waited 5 months before getting the email to say the position was now full.

Actually, I was slightly incorrect on that information. Invites have gone out for interviews in June. So that's a little more positive for people still waiting.

Well that's that done and dusted, can only hope now.

Probably the most professional interviewers i've had. Out of all the TOCs i've interviewed with.

It was mentioned that they are actively recruiting for drivers during my interview, so people who are waiting for an update on applications, keep an eye out.

So yeah, I've passed my psychometrics prior to this interview last year.

So really as far as I can tell it's pass the DMI, hope I make it out of the talent pool (been stung by these many times) and into a medical.

Did you apply for the apprenticeship advertised on March 21st? Were you already in a talent pool for Northern?

I've been in talent pools with Northern before for other roles - not driver.

It was discussed after the interview ended.

They were speaking about the next steps and I dropped in that I had passed them last year.

I believe mine were passed to the enhanced standard for TPE and they said that if I were successful I wouldn't have to do them again.
