According to a post several pages back 2 were moved from Penzance to Laira yesterday (Sunday). So at least 2!how many spare power cars do GWR still have to marshal with these carriages?
You might want to have a think about how HST trailers can work with a 47 or 57.
They are HST vehicles, not loco hauled coaches and the electrical systems are incompatible for passenger use. They can only be used with HST power cars.
5Z37 Crewe to Laira is yet to depart but consisted as 37688 9479 41117 44047 42100
Doh! Bloody autocorrect! HahaWho's she?
the extra HST's will be a short term solution, not long enough to retrofit then test such a car, by the time you would be ready its likly enough of the 80X's would be back in serviceSomeone just needs to knock up a quick three phase generator car to go with them (I think it was done in the early days of the HST MK3s?}
well these where loco hauled to site just without any power for lights, doors etcYep, sorry, flicking between threads and read the comment about them being the Mk3 hauled set (probably would have helped if I'd actually watched the video).
I have heard this internally but nothing official has been announced. It would make sense to make some sets available as out of 19 we currently need only 8 of them and two were stopped so there are theoretically 9 sets available
And that leaves them with no contingency for anymore failures. I can't see them sending any south.TPE currently need 10 802s to run the current timetable. I think it may be about 6 or 7 to run hourly Liverpool - York services which is what the service will be reduced to tomorrow.
5 802s have been stopped for cracks discovered, a further 2 have been taken out of service with a seperate defect so that leaves 12 sets for, let's say, 7 diagrams.
Allow for 2 sets to be on exam/maintennce, that leaves 3 spare potentially for short term transfer to GWR.
And that leaves them with no contingency for anymore failures. I can't see them sending any south.
yea, this as well as the XC swindon services and LSL EX-EMR carriages show just how well everybody is working together to mitigate this major eventIn the last few minutes, 1Pxx and 1Axx services running from Swindon to Paddington have started to appear in RTT for tomorrow timed as EMUs. Hopefully this means they have enough crew trained up in just a few days to run the 387s.
If it comes to pass, that's a fantastic effort by everyone (staff, GWR, NR and unions) to get that sorted so quick.
I’ve heard rumors c2c’s 6 387/3s as well as some HT 802s could be coming in as a stop gap - anyone able to confirm or are discussions still ongoing?
Thank you - if it does happen I wonder if they’ll stay in the fixed 12 car formation or whether they’ll be pooled with GWR’s existing units...if/ when the C2C 387s turn up, it’s 3 of them.
The class 387's from C2C, will not be arriving at Reading depot until about 12pm. The diagram may not be under C2c, as I suspect that the units will be loco hauled to Reading.Regarding c2c class 387s, there is currently 3 of 6 units in use daily (normally 6 of 6). RTT shows today's diagram has 387s allocated to it.
Currently nothing in RTT from Shoeburyness, East Ham or Gas Factory Loop for today hinting at a stock transfer.
Does your info detail how many units are going ?The class 387's from C2C, will not be arriving at Reading depot until about 12pm. The diagram may not be under C2c, as I suspect that the units will be loco hauled to Reading.
You don’t need to ”suspect”. There is no electrified link between the GWML and other lines. The class 387's from C2C, will not be arriving at Reading depot until about 12pm. The diagram may not be under C2c, as I suspect that the units will be loco hauled to Reading.
Pfffft! I'm no operational expert but surely getting a good head of steam up, so to speak, and dropping the pan can overcome that? You don’t need to ”suspect”. There is no electrified link between the GWML and other lines.

To be fair, the gradient down from Acton Wells Jn would probably give the train enough momentum to coast till it was back under the wires. Slight problem when it's time to return the units though!Pfffft! I'm no operational expert but surely getting a good head of steam up, so to speak, and dropping the pan can overcome that?![]()
It's downhill from Acton Wells Jn on the Poplar Branch to the GWML...Pfffft! I'm no operational expert but surely getting a good head of steam up, so to speak, and dropping the pan can overcome that?![]()
Why would they go back to LNER surely they would be returned to the leaseco ?If the two (short?) HSTs currently with EMR went back to LNER after this weekend they could shuttle inverness to Edinburgh and back and Aberdeen to Edinburgh and back (twice) for connections every day.
do you mean today (Tuesday) as I can see no diagrams on RTT for a Shoeburyness to Reading depot move all day (yet anyway)?Does your info detail how many units are going ?
who could then lease them short term to LNER. Need a dispensation from DFT since they are not compliant but the Rail Minister was calling yesterday for Train Operators " to source extra trains to avoid delays". Easier said than done although these are available! Why would they go back to LNER surely they would be returned to the leaseco ?
I think the point being made is that they will be available after this week to cover the shortfall in units and service north of the border. Without going into the precise contractual detail of the steps that would need to occur for it to happen. Those steps are probably the easiest bit to solve - issues around retained staff knowledge might be a little more problematic in terms of the speed of delivery of a solution. Why would they go back to LNER surely they would be returned to the leaseco ?
another reason to remind the DfT of their foolishness and short-sightedness at not wiring sections like this. It's downhill from Acton Wells Jn on the Poplar Branch to the GWML...![]()
Why bother - Scotrail could use the HST's they have in store a bit like Cross Country are doing could they not?If the two (short?) HSTs currently with EMR went back to LNER after this weekend they could shuttle inverness to Edinburgh and back and Aberdeen to Edinburgh and back (twice) for connections every day.
I could not see either - but all 387 units are currently at East Ham, and are only being used on one diagram that starts and ends there each morning/evening peak.do you mean today (Tuesday) as I can see no diagrams on RTT for a Shoeburyness to Reading depot move all day (yet anyway)?
