From NXEA - We are pleased to report that an agreement has been reached with London Midland to sub-lease two
Class 153 diesel multiple units to NXEA to cover for the Class 156 train which was seriously damaged in
the incident on the Sudbury line in August (when a lorry driver went onto a user-controlled level crossing
without permission and caused a collision). The two trains are due to move to Crown Point depot in Norwich
very shortly, where some additional maintenance, safety checks and preparatory work will need to take place
before the trains can enter normal service. It is hoped that this work can be completed within the next two weeks,
enabling the trains to go into traffic from Monday, 1st November.
The completion of this deal is good news for our customers on both the Norwich – Ipswich – Colchester – London
route and the local routes radiating out of Ipswich and Norwich. It means that the medium term and short term
alterations to services (including rolling stock substitutions, changes of train on route and cancellations), which
have been taking place since August, will no longer be necessary. The extra Class 153s will remain with us until
repairs to the Class 156, which are expected to take many months, are complete. Thanks are due to those in
the fleet and operations teams who have helped to bring this positive step forward to fruition. It will make a real
difference for passengers and will be helpful for employees too.

Interesting to see that NX suggesting that 52417 is to be repaired, the last update on this suggested that 57417 was coming back but the other end was too far gone

As I understand it, had there been a spare vehicle/unit then 52417 won't have been coming back. As it goes, undertaking extensive repairs to the vehicle is cheaper than the only other option which would have been new build.

Still, will be nice to have 2x refurbished 153s in the area rather than the knackered and worn out ones currently operated by NX

They could have done a basterdised hybrid like Central Trains did when 156419 hit a van in Lincolnshire. It ran as part 156, part 153 to make a two car unit. I had it on a Stansted instead of the booked 170, bet customers felt special

At least the cost will be coming from a certain companies insurance....

Indeed. I give them three weeks before they are brown externally and look like they've not seen any internal work for 10 years!!

Are there any more 156s with the line advertising like 156417?

I have always wondered why the National Express white line (bad enough as it is) seems to be torn off to make way for the bittern line advertising ie the line does not end neatly but at an angle on both sides.

I think you will find that most NXEA units are in pretty good external condition. Unfortunatley a couple of 153s have not had a good heavy external clean since last years harsh winter weather. There is no excuse for this.

All units should go through the wash every time they arrive at Crown point depot. Trouble is if they arrive from the Whitlingham direction or go from reception via the bypass (usually due to an Intercity set changing ends in the wash at busy times) then it gets missed. If i feel trains are dirty when leaving the depot i ask the panel for a wash but cannot speak for other drivers.

Was that the one where the 153 had carefully been attached with small cab outwards to annoy the drivers...

Are they coupled together so that both original cabs are facing outwards so that the cramped new cabs do not have to be used? Are London Midland not now short of units?
Does anyone have any other pictures?
Thanks in advance :)

LM have got units coming out of their ears. At least one 153 has been surplus since the Parry People Movers entered service.

and there getting more ... fair

They are "getting more" to free up the other units to cascade. They'll probably end up with a small increase but they were due to have an in increase in the HLOS anyway.

They are getting 69 new carriages but will losing a minimum of around 54 (17x 150 and likely all 10x 153). They may lose more, it still hasn't 'officially' been announced what 150s they'll be keeping.

How easy would it be for NXEA to upload the NXEA stations to the PIS system on these units, by GE's photos it looks like they are operating in service, out of service. ?
