1st - Paraffin handsignalling lamp - Two colour (Red/Green shades) issued to train crew, Signalmen, Operating, and station staff. Three colour (Red/Green/Yellow shades) issued to P. Way staff. The design of the hood usually helps to identify the pre-Grouping Railway Company

2nd - This is a sidelight for a partially braked/unfitted train. There should be a red shade which fits into the lamp on one side. This can be withdraw and dropped down in front of the bulls eye so that a red light can be shone through it. These lamps were hung on a bracket on the side of the brake van. The red light showed to the rear, the unshaded light faced the Driver of approaching trains. Depending upon which line the train was travelling on depended on whether a red or a white light was displayed, and if so from which side of the train.

3rd - This looks like an old road works lamp. In years gone by (but when I was a lad) road works were guarded by a lampman all night, who sat in a little shed. He would go around and make sure the oil lamps that were placed around excavations and road works were alight.

I'd agree with Old Timer on all three lamps. At St Albans South we have a couple of examples of the hand-signalling lamp; note the wire handles at the back so the lamp can be lifted to head height for certain signals.

The road lamp - one picture possibly shows '1961' on the curve at the top? That would make it fairly late on in oil lamp history.

Sorry - no idea of values - any matching examples on e-bay?

Value - depends on condition, but not vast. Also dependent if all burners, interior glass & coloured filters are present. Without any provenance, and assuming that they are complete,I'd say approx £50 for the handlamp, £20 for the side lamp. Anything stamped on them?

Whatever you do, don't paint them!
