Dont know if this is in the right place, but I was wondering if there are any left luggage lockers at York station, or anywhere on the network for that matter? Or have they been removed in response to a terrorist threat? The reason for my question is my girlfriend and I are taking a camping holiday next week and we were thinking of taking in the NRM and York in general,on our way to the campsite, and i dont fancy carrying the camping gear all around the place.

Inverness & Kyle of Lochalsh has them.

Most (all?) Network Rail managed stations have a company (left luggage) that charges £10 per item per day...

Fort William has them too, as above I thgink all NR-managed ones do (Euston, Gloasgow Central, Leeds etc). If you look back through BR tietables, you will see that nearly every station with staff had left luggae facilities: Stansted Mountfitchet, Blackburn etc, places that would never have one in a million years now. Virgin's 'Travelling with Virgin Trains' guide shows which stations have them, quite a few i think, but they are kept quiet about...

There is a left luggage office at York. It is near the end of platform 2. You check in the items which are x-rayed & they give you a receipt. you hand this in & pay when you collect the items.
I can't remember how much it is - I think it is something like £6 per item per day.

According to the National Rail site, the opening hours at York are:

Monday-Saturday 0800-2030

Sunday 0900-2030

Yeah that sounds about right. Last time i used it was a couple of years ago when they charged a £5iver! It's run by Europcar & also hires bikes i think. Pretty friendly staff who will advise you to condense bags to save yourself money.

I've found that where I've needed them (Carlisle and Cambridge in the last year) most stations will have a business near by who does left luggage, much cheaper than those at stations which have official left luggage counters!
