I say good to all these people. It shows the government the general public are fed up of restrictions and won't put up with being told what to do anymore.
Agreed. It would be better if they didn't leave so much litter. It can't be that hard to put the rubbish back in the carrier bag and take it home.

Even more recently - the goings on in Glasgow a couple of weeks back? Absolutely nothing came from that. :)

Yep, cases have been on a steady downward trend specifically in Glasgow since 7th March (when that happened), so that won't translate into any rises in hospitalisations/deaths.

I notice The Sun and The Mirror are both running with articles "Brits 'could be stuck 4th lockdown' if they overdo it on Easter weekend, expert warns". Dear oh dear. What utter stupid nonsense from this so called "expert" and shame on both The Sun and The Mirror for publishing such rubbish. There won't be any need for a 4th lockdown as all the hospital numbers and deaths are continuing to tumble week on week. They won't be surging up again! Over half the adults in this country have been vaccinated now! Why do these people not get it?

Grrr, why are they normalising this so much? It drives me mad. One lockdown should be a once in a lifetime experience... I absoutely dread to think what they would demand for a properly serious pandemic. We'd be welded into our homes.

As I keep saying, the lack of proportion in media and government is stupefying. Yet people still lap it up.

I won't be observing any more lockdowns full stop.

They can tell the expert that.

Well that kind of anti-social behaviour and littering may provide much-needed employment for those otherwise jobless when furlough ends and thousands upon thousands of job losses kick-in...

The littering has been one of the most disgusting behavioural aspects of all this, and is one of the main reasons I for one get the hump at some of the “crowded parks and beaches” scenes.

I know there’s been issues with bins being full and toilets closed, but it’s still scant excuse IMO.

Listing to R4 'Any Answers' today, there were callers who are all in favour of 'vaccine passports' for hospitatility venues. No great surprise there. What was worrying is that they seemed to believe this would make those venues zero risk. It would not. The vaccine is not 100% effective against either becoming infected or being contagious, nobody has ever expected it to be.

Anybody calling for such rules should be prepared to present actual numbers as to how much safer they would be, compared to allowing access to all.

Also, anybody saying these rules would be temporary should be prepared to present measurable objective criteria for when they would be removed.

I wonder how many of these listeners actually go to these venues? They certainly won't be the ones that make them profitable.

It always strikes me as odd when the ones in favour of vaccine passports talk about driving. If they were so concerned with zero risk, they wouldn't drive.

Littering is one of my pet hates. I remember years ago Welsh Water spent several hours at my house. Before driving off the two blokes chucked all their Mcdonalds wrappers out on the street. Why didn't they just ask to put it in my bin? Did they really think I'd rather have rubbish blowing about in the street and in my garden?

In the past year, I've noticed a massive increase in fly tipping in country lanes just outside the city.

See also "I'm not taking my kids to school because they might catch Covid" but it's okay to drive kids to school. Way more people under 16 are killed by cars than Covid.

They also seem to believe that everybody driving on the road has a licence.

Enough episodes of "Police Interceptors" would seem to confirm that this is, indeed, not always the case!

Usually the same individuals have no insurance, valid MOT or road tax paid either.

This was an interesting article amid the doom and gloom usually in the media

In the week ending 19 March, 10,311 deaths were registered in England and Wales. Every one of these events is a cause of sadness and mourning. But, from a statistical perspective, this is a remarkably low total, the lowest since 2014 for that week. Furthermore, 740 registrations had Covid-19 as the underlying cause and the remaining non-Covid deaths are running below every year in the past decade. So why are there so few deaths?

I'm fairly certain we are going to see a "harvester effect" this year, with pretty low deaths overall as many of the most ill/vulnerable will have been taken by covid or by missing out on healthcare.

A similar effect was seen on a smaller scale in Europe during the 2003 heatwave, where the media got into a tizz about the excess deaths only for it to revert to the mean with a few months of abnormally low deaths that autumn/winter.

Mirror reporting that SAGE modelling shows that following the current roadmap will lead to a huge in hospitalisations in August and could mean the May & June lockdown easing being delayed. SAGE also say that that social distancing and other restrictions needed until spring next year.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/lockdown-plan-fully-reopen-pubs-23856766

Lockdown plan to fully reopen pubs on May 17 could be delayed, SAGE study suggests

Government scientists believe some restrictions may have to be maintained until this time next year. Sage papers say there could be another surge in Covid-19 infections in late summer.
Reopening of pubs, cinemas and indoor hospitality could be delayed after new modelling suggested England could see a new Covid-19 surge.
Sage papers say there could be a late summer surge after the great unlock almost as bad as that seen in late January when hospitals were nearly overwhelme

Reading further down it does say that the modelling assumes only 85% protection against severe disease and a 31% reduction in transmission

Load of nonsense personally. We’re told the vaccine is effective and a road back to normality.
Although it’s another article I’ve added to my ever growing list of covid doom that has never happened/never will happen.

Pretty much, I think they're being very pessimistic on the vaccines effectiveness.

They can do what they want frankly. They can't stop me climbing mountains, visiting family or riding on trains. If the government wants to carry on shafting businesses that's up to them. I feel sorry for people that own said businesses and have bills/mortgages to pay.

What utter utter nonsense! With respect to you, I'm not even going to bother looking at that nonsense article. A huge rise in hospitalisations in August???!! May & June lockdown easing being delayed??!!! Social distancing and other restrictions needed until spring next year???!! What utter utter nonsense these people come up with! And can't believe the press and media gives them airtime/publication space!

The media loves a good scare story, they've pretty much chosen the worst case scenario from the SAGE report and turned it into a headline. This summarises it best 'Though there remains uncertainty about the timing, scale and shape”.

It didn't spike when everything reopened last July, even without vaccination and much less population immunity, so theres no reason to believe there will be any significant increase this year, at least until the usual respiratory rises of September onwards.

Still though the media are doing their job right, holding them to account?

No one wonder people like myself are growing a distrust with media in general, it’s like the media would rather be led to the slaughters than stop and question let alone publish first, but then again it’s click baiting here for fear.

Presumably yesterday there were lots of headlines about 'normality by easter' like how the telegraph reported on on the 31st of December?

Definitely. There was no issues last summer, so why should there be this year, with vaccinations?!

Local elections everyone.

If this government's too weak to slap down SAGE, let them know at the ballot box.
