Trivia: Station with most TOC's

Standing on Plat 13 at Man Pic on Monday Eve, I was quite fascinated by the huge plethora of different liveries. At the last count, I believe there were sis individual Train Operating Companies.

1) Virgin WC
2) Cross Country
3) Northern
4) East Midland Trains
5) Trans Pennine
6) Arriva Trains Wales

Can anybody think of a Station with more TOCs with scheduled Services.

I believe Crewe may have six also, but do any have More?

If you include open access operators then Doncaster does very well:
Hull Trains
Grand Central
East Coast
Cross Country
First TPE
East Midlands Trains
Northern

But for franchised operators exclusively, I think that Manchester Piccadilly must be the winner. Even Birmingham New Street only has four.

First Scotrail

Think only Crewe & Doncaster have 7, can't think of any that have more.
Birmingham NS has 4, Edinburgh 4, Glasgow Central 4, Leeds 5, Liverpool Lime St 5, Manchester Piccadilly 6, York 6 (when EMT operating to Scarborough). Most London Terminals only have 1 or 2.

See, I knew i'd miss one. Crewe does indeed have 7 fully fledged TOCs with no open access operators so must surely be the winner.

Actually, contradictory to that, I thought Yorks were solely for Scarbrough, didn't realise they terminated at York off-season...

That's five/six as well
GC pass through, but they don't actually pick up passengers

Incidentally, King's Cross has four/five

  5. TfL if the Tube counts

Well, they pass through Gateshead, on the other side of the Tyne, but to go through Central Station, they'd have to cross over the river twice, when I've ever taken the diversion, they simply come off the ECML and go towards Heworth and Sunderland.

This refers to ECS moves, trains cannot access Heaton via the high level bridge from the Sunderland branch, so need to pass by Gateshead sheds, over the King Edward bridge, and through the station from west to east and out to Heaton that way.

If We allow Empty Stock Moves, We may as well allow EWS/DBS GBRF, Freightliner coal Trains.....

Please don't be so defensive uksweet, I was just saying that under normal circumstances they do pass through Newcastle when on ECS, I was giving you some information I thought you may find interesting.

I wasn't trying to say they should be included, neither was LE Greys!

I think the HST set I saw going through must have been ECS to Heaton then.

Just thought I'd mention it, for the sake of completeness.
I could have added:
EWS
Freightliner Heavy Haul
Riviera Trains
Vintage Trains
A1 Locomotive Society
And probably a bunch of other charter operations.
However, that would have been cheating
And so would including the Metro, I expect, so Newcastle has five.

Well, yes! Depends on what the scope of the question is, some stations may have only 1 TOC for most of the year and a summer special etc.

As for GC and Newcastle, they also use the High Level Bridge and don't have to use the King Edward. If there is platform space they can come in over the High Level and reverse.

Haha, yes, couldn't resist mate, sorry! :D

Didn't realise they also parked up and reversed. It makes a lot of sense given the capacity constraints of the King Edward bridge.

Anyone know which unstaffed station is served by most TOC's?

Irlam, Chinley and Dore are served by 3 (NT, TPE & EMT), any served by 4 or more?
