Good morning all.
My father may have the need to travel from High Wycombe to Manchester ( weekday) before 1000 . He has a Senior railcard and I was wondering if he can still purchase a discounted HWY-MAN off peak return (SVR) and use it on a pre 0929 Virgin train from Euston ? I have entered the details on the Trainline and it does give valid tickets but ONLY via London ( Euston) - no via Banbury trains are listed before 0930. My one slight concern is that I am worried he may run into problems on the morning Chiltern train into Marylebone where Inspectors / gateline staff may query why he is using the SVR at such an early time on a weekday train. Would they need convincing that the HWY-MAN route is priced by Virgin so discounted SVR tickets are valid during the "weekday morning peak" ? If so I can print out the relevant docs if someone could kindly send me the URL
Is there a list of the railcards which are valid in order to make use of this generous Virgin easement ?

Thanks again.

It is only valid on peak Virgin services, so the use of Chiltern to Marylebone would be invalid anyways.

However High Wycombe is located within the Network area and journeys commencing within the network area to destinations outside the network area are not time restricted in terms of arriving into London, its the time your leaving London that restricts the ticket and since the senior railcard is being used the restrictions are relaxed.
I dont see a reason why it wouldnt be valid

Thanks dan.
I'm confused as to why Trainline is allowing me to purchase a Senior Railcard discounted SVR , £47.40, dep HWY 0624 , to connect with the 0800 Euston - Manchester Piccadilly arr 10.07. ?

Are you sure, dan? I don't have NFM 07 on this mobile, but my recollection was that a High Wycombe - Manchester route + Any Permitted ticket was restricted only from London and unrestricted on the High Wycombe - London part of the journey. Has this changed?

Senior Railcard holders can use Off Peak singles and returns (SVS/SVR) tickets on any Virgin Trains service provided that Virgin Trains sets the fare and and it is NOT routed 'Virgin Trains Only'.

The '+London' fare is set by Virgin Trains and the restriction is from London Euston onwards, so travel from High Wycombe is not restricted and neither is it from London on VT services in this case.

The Any Permitted, priced by CrossCountry is restricted to after 0930 (2V), but the +London is depart Euston 0926-1500 or at/after 1845 (9I). So yes, John you are correct it is unrestricted to London anyways - I was foolishly quoting the terms of Virgin's easement without checking other things - my apologies.

In terms of what southerner2174 says regarding journeys to outside the NSE area, technically it is correct but the condition is 'to connect with trains from London'. If you obtain someone without knowledge of the rules and, in the morning peak, a reluctance to look them up then you may waste time (and, in some cases, money which you'll need to claim back later) in arguing the terms of the ticket you hold. In this case, as John has correctly stated, this is unnecessary.

You can use any train if you go via London.

Avoid XC!!

NETWORK AREA:
The London & South East
Network Area is shown in the
London Area Fares section E0

Off-Peak tickets for journeys
starting within the Network
Area to destinations outside
the Network Area with travel
via London are valid by any
train to London
, to connect
with trains from London.
The ticket is then valid on any train from Euston to Manchester.

I can confirm hairyhandedfool is right :)

This business about journeys from stations in the Network Area to destinations outside it - Why can't I book early morning services in combination with Virgin's Railcard easement from Reading to Manchester Route: +LONDON using East Coast's website?

Presumably it is trying to find a connection onto the first Off Peak service according to the restriction code of the ticket.

Yet the restriction code is the same from Reading as it is from High Wycombe!
