Any tips for split ticketing for this journey departing tomorrow morning returning Friday? Unfortunately no railcard - one adult.

Thanks!

What are your time constraints?
Are you willing to have a longer journey, leaving Burton earlier on the outward leg and/or arriving Burton later on the return leg, to save money?

Willing to have a longer journey leaving Burton earlier on the outward - would prefer to have around 3-4pm arrival back to Burton if possible

Location
Liverpool
If you are leaving after 9:30 tomorrow, then splitting at Cheltenham Spa will save about £10.
Splitting again at Birmingham saves another few pence.

The available through fares are:

Burton on Trent - Salisbury
route Bristol
Off-Peak Return £67.60 (By any train except those scheduled to depart before 0500.)

route + London
Anytime Return £217.00
Off-Peak Return £125.00 (Arrive London: Euston before 0720 or at or after 1130; St Pancras at or after 1005. Depart London: Euston between 0926 & 1500 or after 1844; St Pancras between 0901 & 1629 or after 1859. Not restricted Waterloo - Salisbury.)
Super Off-Peak Return £90.50 (Arrive London: Euston before 0720 or at or after 1130; St Pancras at or after 1129. Depart London: Euston between 0926 & 1500 or after 1844; St Pancras between 1026 & 1515 or after 1859. Not restricted Waterloo - Salisbury.)

So the £67.60 fare is the one to beat. There is a saving by splitting at Birmingham and Cheltenham:

Burton on Trent - Birmingham: Off-Peak Return £11.90 2V
Birmingham - Cheltenham: Off-Peak Return £19.40 2V
Cheltenham - Salisbury: Off-Peak Return £26.20 Q8
Total £57.50

The restrictions are:
2V - Not before 0930
Q8 - Valid on any train timed to depart at or later than:
Bristol Parkway 0745
Bristol Temple Meads 0810
Salisbury 0850

if you have plenty of time and the trains fit in, look at going via Worcester and using the FGW through train from there to Salisbury, often very cheap fares available there (singles).

Think it is still cheaper doing the split at Birmingham and Chelt.

If you were going for longer I would suggest the following

Burton - Worcester SAV £18-80
plus a Freedom of Severn & Solent Rover
either 3 in 7 days £40 giving you a days travel for £1-30
or a 8 in 15 day £60 giving you 6 days travel for £21-30
