suppose you want to travel from outside the london travelcard area on a paper ticket to a zone 6 national rail station and then continue on the same train using oyster. of course if you have oyster pay as you go then you need to get off the train, touch in and wait for the next train. what happens if you have a travelcard product on your oyster? if you stay on the train (so don't get off to touch in) and then leave then train in zone 2 where there are no barriers, get on a tube without going through barriers and touch out leaving at a barried tube station what happens? what happens in the reverse direction? thanks

With a Travelcard Season ticket, on the way in there should be no problem provided you touch out within the zones your Travelcard is valid for. On the way out you should also be fine provided you touch in within your zones and you don't have an Oyster Extension Permit on your Oyster card. If you do have an OEP then I'm not sure what you're supposed to do...

No, your Travelcard on Oyster is valid irrespective of whether you touch in, providing of course you only use it within the Zones that your Travelcard is valid for. This is no different to a paper ticket. If the barriers are left open, you can just walk through.

You only have to touch in if you are using PAYG, if you are starting within your valid Zones and going outside your valid zones you should load an OEP before touching in too.

As long as you touch out within your stored zones and have not set the OEP flag you will be fine. Obviously the paper ticket must take you to the zone where your Oyster season takes over or you could run into trouble if you meet an RPI. Within your stored zones the system will not charge maximum fares on either touch in or touch out.

Don't get an OEP until immediately before commencing a journey that is going outside the zones. Travelling round with an OEP loaded unnecessarily can cause problems!
