Should we have called at Pilmoor before Brafferton....or is there an avoiding line?

I was trying to check just now: Dewick's Complete Atlas shows an avoiding line, "straight through", via a bridge over the East Coast Main -- no other source which I looked at (including Wiki) seems to indicate such a thing.

According to Wikipedia's diagram of the East Coast Main Line, there was a line over the ECML.

Knaresborough Hay Park Lane

At the risk of being extremely annoying: don't we reverse at Knaresborough, and set off along the York line as far as Hessay? I perceive Knaresborough station (open today) as coming before Hay Park Lane, which is the next station in the Leeds direction: so HPL not involved?

Wikipedia has it as between Knaresborough and the junction with the previous railway, but given it is not necessarily the most reliable, I'll assume you are more likely to be correct

Goldsborough

Sorry I missed the rest of that one!

On the basis of the above few posts, can we take it that there is an avoider, and Pilmoor does not feature?

Boroughbridge (1st station)
I recall we looked the Pilmoor avoiding line up before and I think the embankments and bridge were built but track never laid. I will check again.

The connection between the Pilmoor, Boroughbridge & Thirsk and the Thirsk & Malton Railways was never completed. It was part of a wider scheme approved in 1866 that also included a west to north curve at Malton to create a competing route to Scarborough. Although the earthworks and bridge over the ECML were completed before the scheme was scrapped, no rails were ever laid. It remains another of those great 'what ifs' of railway history!

This is the most definite information I can find at present.
