A rumour abounds that Manchester arrivals, already cut from two to one per hour, will go to singles from Monday. Might be that XC will monitor passenger numbers for the rest of this week and make a final decision on the weekend. XC technically still has the same capacity from Birmingham to Manchester: it's just condensed into more carriages less frequently.

Thats not true. Most have been reduced but not all.

Still a couple around according to RTT. The diagrams would have changed quite a bit due to the reduction in services in some areas could mean they end up in a different depot to before.

0730 Bournemouth - Manchester

Although apart from fuel and a bit of track access youre not really saving much in the scheme of things.

A friend on the trains reports that loadings are just okay for single sets and social distancing. A little higher than lockdown one though.

They're still being paid...

But by removing a number of traincrew diagrams you can potentially reduce the need for overtime to cover those diagrams.

Maybe one day we will see the Manchester - Bristol and Newcastle - Reading/Southampton services re-instated, but I am not convinced.

Caught the 1052 from Cheltenham to Bristol this morning (1V48, 221121). Myself and one other passenger boarded in Coach B, which was empty on arrival.

I can partly see why the double Voyager workings were scrapped.

Not all services were doubles on the North East to South West axis even pre-January. Manchester had all bar one double workings, now it's all bar one single! Not sure if the new double is the old single though.
