I repeat that the assumptions at the time of planning were that the trains would be 100% compulsory seat reservation i.e. for specific seats, not generic areas or time-bands. These assumptions were publicised at the numerous public consultation meetings which were held along the line of route. Of course, with the passage of time and changes of personnel, things may have changed since then, but I've not seen any compelling evidence to that effect.

On that basis, we'd end up with Oswald Mosley Junction, not something I'd like.

obviously it might also help to rename a road somewhere near the station as well.

London Elizabeth could be something for the royalists and flag wavers to savour, in the same vein as London Victoria.
In fact I’m warming to the idea of naming it ‘London [insert name here]’. It’s going to be a major London station, the principal point to alight for many central London locations (& Canary Wharf) rather than Euston. It is geographically closer to many areas of central London than several other London termini too. If it is a success, it could drag the geography of central London further west.

If anything, Old Oak Common could cause all sorts of issues with London as a prefix because tourists having just boarded the Elizabeth line or Heathrow Express at Heathrow may alight there expecting central London, and possibly indeed long distance travellers from HS2 or GWR who may get off at the first “London” station, and walk out into a housing estate.

However they would have an easy onward connection to central London on Crossrail, just as most of them arriving at Paddington or Euston would need to use the Tube to their final destination.
The London prefix in itself is pretty arbitrary. As said up here, we don't see it at Clapham Junction or Vauxhall, which are much more central.
I think it would be even more confusing for the occasional traveller to have 'London Old Oak' or 'London West Elizabeth Parkway' or whatever else convoluted solution we try force onto a problem that doesn't exist.

Old Oak Common doesn't mean much to us up North either from where a large number of HS2 users are expected to come from.
I personally associate it with the depot that has since been demolished. Nothing else springs to mind.

Seeing that we have will have Birmingham Interchange station on HS2, maybe it should be called London Interchange station, as both have a similar role

"West London Interchange"? That makes it clear it's not an Hbf actually in central London.
I Like that best so far. A variation could be, in the spirit of Clapham Junction, "West London Junction".

That'd work too. Both of those options describe where it is (i.e. not in zone 1 and on the west side of London), describe which big city it's relevant to (London) and describe its purpose (changing trains rather than as a start/end of the journey, at least for most people).

West London Interchange might be the most literal and didactic. Old Oak Interchange may be a better compromise.
I suspect when Crossrail finally opens, the whole world will know about it. Plus announcements, maps on trains etc, I think the connectivity will be very well known. Even without LO, there will be a lot of things to announce - GWML to all the West/SW, CR to Heathrow as well as Central London... a short walk to a 'very relieved' Central line at North Acton... the Ealing trains will be empty.

Clapham Junction is neither in Clapham, nor strictly speaking a (major geographic route) Junction, although clearly there are some points but nowhere near as many on the running lines as many people might imagine! Perhaps, we should just assign stations machine generated multi-character ID tags like MAC addresses!
Helped by being a terminus of some services "Old Oak Common" will be as well known as Cockfosters, Epping, West Ruislip, Brixton, Walthamstow, etc.

I think it'll be more like a London Bridge! But yep, it won't be known until it is. Crossrail will ensure it becomes part of the national travel consciousness! I expect in every day speak, it'll just get cut down to 'Old Oak' - as with many London places, people might assume it's named after a pub!
Clapham Junction is the junction for the SWML/Windsor split, of course!
Point taken on Battersea though - but Clapham Junction is now its own place, in between Clapham and Battersea - geography evolves with language...

It's not an airport. 'London Luton' etc is bad enough. North Pole would be fun but they wouldn't dare. Stratford and Clapham Junction don't have a 'London' or an 'Interchange' tacked on. Old Oak Junction is nice and railway-ish and fits in with GWR nostalgic publicity but I'd be happy with Old Oak Common/ Old Oak. The argument about this being hard for non-Londoners doesn't hold the other way - do we know where New St or Moor St or Lime St are if we don't live in those cities? Names like Victoria or Piccadilly don't help much either in themselves.

I don’t get the aversion to having ‘London’ in the name for OOC, just because it’s not in central London (which by the way, it’s only 3 miles away and closer to many destinations in the west of the central London than Liverpool St or London Bridge. It is also better placed than Euston to act as the main hub for anyone going to the City, Canary Wharf or Heathrow).
Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester all have stations outside their centre named after the city, with the latter two getting another station each.

Personally I like ‘London Elizabeth Station’ and I’m far from a royalist. Let’s face it, the Queen will no doubt be getting a whole raft of things named after her. Underground lines and airport terminals have already happened - railway stations will be next.
Maybe Piccadilly will be renamed Elizabeth!

How about simply "West London Interchange"? Seems to me to be short, sharp and to the point.
Though it's actually a good interchange to reach all parts of London (not just West London) - Stratford and Canary Wharf for example.

Labelling it West London in my mind would just be an indicator as to the side of London its at as opposed to what services it is associated with.
