I've been the only passenger on the C2 when I've used it (Off-peak)

Maybe the deckers earmarked for the C2 would be better used on the X1?

The C2 is a really odd service, I thought it would go through Tremorfa/Splott but the way they've routed it seems to deliberately avoid any catchment area. When I used to drive the 11 (or 11/12/13/9/8 - however it was numbered at the time  ) it was always very busy - surprised they didn't go for that corridor.

Pontypridd local services 103/104/105/107/109 are all being increased back to an hourly frequency from every 2 hours/90minutes from this Sunday (4th October)

Pontypridd Town service 101 is reducing to hourly from every 20-30 minutes as its no longer iterworked with the 106 service which tfw decided should be extended via the A470 to Parc Nantgarw.

TfW decided to extend a commercial service to the NAT depot?

NAT have tweeted that it ''shouldn't be long' until the T9 (Cardiff-Airport) restarts. I'm not sure whether that means they're actually discussing a date with TrawsCymru or are just fed up with people asking.

T9 update: Thanks to our many T9 customers who are patiently waiting for this service to restart. We have to be granted @TrawsCymru_ approval for this route to recommence but it shouldn’t be long now. We will keep you posted. @TravelineCymru @VOGCtransport @Cardiff_Airport

Given the area is under a lockdown and it wasn't well used service when I'd have thought the Welsh Government would have better things to spend their money on.
It would be pouring money down the drain, given that there are currently so few flights from Rhoose - a daily KLM flight to Amsterdam and a few holiday flights (about 2/day on average). By contrast, Lulsgate Airport (Bristol) has 38 departures today. It would be cheaper to mothball Rhoose completely, at least for the foreseeable future, and run a bus from Cardiff via Newport direct to Lulsgate.

It appears that NAT are discovering the operational difficulties that led First and Stagecoach to abandon the X7. This was posted in their Facebook page earlier this morning.

NAT said:
X7 Service Update: We're currently in discussion with TrawsCymru & Monmouthshire Council about adding more running time to the service timetable with the aim to improve punctuality now that traffic has started to pick up. Do you have a suggestion about our X7 service? We are open to suggestions about how this service could develop so send us an email on info@natgroup.co.uk . Thank you.

Many drivers have suggested extending to newport with extra running time.

Seriously I think k nat could do with a depot either at chepstow or Bristol way.

Better yet maybe sub contract out to help out another operator perhaps?:

Yet one of the reasons for First handing over the reins was that the depot was in Bristol and not out stationed in Chepstow anymore.

Its usually empty, with a blank destination and a piece of paper in the windscreen, when I see the Citaros headings up and down Whiteladies Road.

I have seen some with a reasonable number of passengers on and destinations properly set up.

Both First and Stagecoach are local if NAT want to sub contract!
Extending to Newport just costs a bus and nicks passengers from the Newport Bus services.

Cutting the frequency would cure the problem, and reduce costs. Cutting out Cribbs in the peak and Bristol City centre off peak would also work.

I'm suprised the WAG haven't made it a fflecsi yet!

Surely it would have made sense for one of these companies to bid as it would be silly for them to charge the council one price but NAT another price for the same service.

Costs a bus yes but if it has a lot of through passengers, it might be worth it and that is the risk with it. You are kind of relying on Newport to Bristol passengers to make the extra bus worth it as I get the impression that there wasn't much Chepstow to Newport traffic or Stagecoach would have kept that bit on as it would have been easy to run.

The first part of this sentence is just starting the spiral of decline. As soon as you cut frequency, less people use the bus.
Cutting Cribbs at peak times, could work. Is there much usage there at peaks?
Cutting Bristol City Centre I think you might as well drop the route as isn't that the whole basis of this route running.

I'm suprised the WAG haven't made it a fflecsi yet!
Don't tempt them haha.

There was an indication that the money for the service partly came from the money the WAG had spare from the T9 not running. I don't know how accurate that is however, if it's the case, then NAT were already the 'bidder'.

I suspect the Newport-Bristol market was next to nothing. Pass holders would use it, everybody else took the train. Chepstow-Newport might have produced enough to pay for the bus and the additional bus meant a bit more flexiability to regain traffic delays.

The decline has already happened. The peak traffic went when the government started subsiding car journeys across the bridge and, off peak, it's a few pass holders to Cribbs. The money saved by cutting the frequency would also cover having a Saturday service again (a big loss if you believe the moaners in the local papers) and a frequency that could cope with the traffic issues and give some reliability might attract a few people back.
Once Christmas shopping starts kicking in NAT are going to realise why Whiteladies Road (the logical way in from Cribbs) was abandoned in favor of the longer route via the M32!

If I was the Welsh Government official specifying the service I'd probably go for a single vehicle to do:

Magor-Chepstow-Cribbs-Bristol in the morning.
Chepstow-Cribbs shuttle off-peak
Bristol-Cribbs-Chepstow-Magor in the evening.

Additional vehicle to be provided when the Severn Bridge is likely to be closed due to weather conditions.

Why would they want to help out another operator at their own expense?

Fair enough. If so, it may be cheaper to sub contract but I can't see it being likely.

What was the usage then as the journey time ended up being only about 10 mins quicker than Newports 73 from Chepstow to Newport. Newport to Bristol must have some usage for it to have been kept for so long as part of the main service with First and Stagecoach.

I do agree with you on that but it doesn't mean you have to hurry up the decline. As soon as the frequency is cut, a lot of people will leave the service and while it may fund a Saturday service, that only helps the free loading pass holders and doesn't help the fare paying commuters who need the bus to get to work and the need the flexible hourly service for the ever changing shift patterns in retail and hospitality.
Reliability will win back a few but reducing the frequency will lose more than reliability gains. It's a difficult one.

Is there any news of the new Metrocities for the T9. Are they just in store until it restarts?
