Been checking East Coast's website for tickets and noticed that there is engineering work between Northallerton and Darlignton this Saturday. It says the 20.15 service from the Cross will be unable to call at Darlington as a result, and will run on a diversionary route. Any ideas what this route will be? I notice it will still call at Durham, so will it be taking the avoider at Darlington or a more exotic route?

TIA for info.

Sorry I don't know anything definite, but I did the Stillington freight lines from Ferryhill, and down to Northallerton via Eaglescliffe on a diverted southbound Voyager one Sunday morning a couple of years ago: Sounds like that would be a possibility for this; although if the 20:15 off Kings Cross is a leccy set then I suppose not.

The 20:15 appears to be a HST so that would be a possibility.

Not always, East Coast had entered the traction for the 1655 ex Newcastle to Kings Cross yesterday into TOPS/GEMINI which I can then view using TRUST as a 91 set BUT the loaned EMT set turned up instead.

If the OP can be patient, I like the odd challenge so will look it up in the office what the route is but to the actual traction, if it's okay with the OP the earliest I will find out is first thing Saturday morning so will just put here what it's booked to be if that's okay?

Yes, because the EMT HST is covering for a 91!

I'm hoping for it to go via Yarm and the Stillngton Branch, however noted that the journey time is only about 15 minutes longer, and the linespeeds between Northallerton and Eagelscliffe are quite slow. Then again if it wasn't stopping at Darlington and going on the avoider it should have a quicker journey time.

Probably will be able to find out before then but if you could always put it on here in case.

Actually that particular working is normally a HST anyway, it rarely gets swapped with a 91 though on times.

Not since the may timetable change officailly it is a 91 diagram,

Some of the others that have swap is that the 1530 - Edinburgh is a 91 and the 1700 - Edinburgh is now a HST.

Why who knows,

No, it goes via Eaglescliffe, Stockton, Stillington & Durham.

If you want to go on the Durham Coast Line, take Grand Central ;)

As I've said above, I'm not local so wouldn't have a clue what route we were taking however I've already done the full Grand Central route from London to Sunderland plus return :)

No problem, will post the powercars here on Friday night with some luck.

Just quickly though, when GNER has to divert via the Durham Coast - what route do they actually take?

Most probably be Newcastle - Sunderland - Hartlepool - Stockton - Eaglescliffe - Yarm - Northallerton, although a few years back Virgin XC Voyagers went via Allens West and Dinsdale to get to Darlington from the Durham Coast Line.

I did the diverts back in 2005 when I moved up from London.
Had to switch at york from a 91 to a HST. We were then diverted from NTR-DUR via eaglescliffe.
Was superb however was standing room only :( Grrrrrr
Hearing those valenta's sing :lol::lol::lol:

As an update, did the working yesterday. Arrived into Newcastle about 6 early, and also quicker than the normal route (which for some reason takes longer normally on this late working).
