Hi Guys I know this forum is mainly for HST Coaches --- but does anyone know what has to 43018 is it still at Haymarket or has it gone for scrap, I know it's cab was used in the repairs to 43036
Peter.
43018 arrived at Crewe Heritage Centre around 13:30 today. Apparently it's been donated by Angel Trains

Yes it appears to be missing a fair few parts but it does still have a cab

Have to wonder why that one, given how heavily stripped it appears to be from the photo I've seen. It must surely be likely that they would be able to source a more complete one within the next year or so, given that there are already a number stored, and more to go off-lease once EMR dispense with theirs. It's difficult to see that they will find a user for most of those.

What has to be remembered, is that Crewe may not want a running Power Car and instead may be happy with something that is effectively “Plinthed”. Having seen inside it, they will indeed have to spend some money putting the missing cab parts back in, but this may allow them to restore it back to it's original appearance at the same time. It also need to be remembered that this is free-bee from Angel Trains. There are indeed a number in storage, but Angel will charge for those. Porterbrook seem to be finding uses for their ex EMR fleet, so the chances of taking one of those may well be limited.

I guess you are probably right - perhaps some sort of exhibition space inside the main part of the bodyshell?

Porterbrook have sold/leased/donated a number of the VP185 engined power cars, but they still have all the MTU-fitted ones, ex-GWR and LNER, plus the ex-LNER ones currently with EMR to follow in due course.

Possibly so, Crewe Heritage Centre have confirmed it is for cosmetic restoration only.

Following on from 43018, is it known whether Scotrail will be getting another one to strip for parts? There was mention of 43185 for this a while back, but so far as I know that's still at Ely.

Regarding the Sims/leasing company embargo on sales, I have not yet been able to confirm with my contact that it was indeed Eversholt, but another source has suggested a possible reason - traceablility.
Although this wasn't elaborated, I guess that there was a possibility that spares, if removed and sold at a breaker's yard, might find their way back onto vehicles running on the network, though I'm not sure whether the objection is that the market price would be undercut or un-certified parts would be in use. Preventing enthusiasts buying momentos is not the primary aim, but 'collateral damage'.

If it was in connection with the 315 disposals, they are all Eversholt owned.

I thought my colleague said Eversholt but not absolutely sure - it was the leasing company that sold 315s to Sims a few weeks ago

Yep, that’s Eversholt. It’s typical of them tbh. I used to work there. They are excessively risk averse. That response from them is also typical of their marketing woman, Wendy.

Hi Guys --- 43185 is it moving to Haymarket as a source of spares.
It not going to Scotrail as replace for 43140 - because it would be going to Doncaster for modifications and what ever else they do to them before they get to Scotland Peter

The power car modifications were done at Brush in Loughborough, it's the coaches that go to Doncaster. As confirmed to me on another thread, yes 43185 is to be used as a source of parts for the Scotrail HST fleet.
