So I was thinking about the idea of a multi-day Northern Pacer Farewell Tour, formed of 2 Class 142s and a Class 144, creating a 7 coach train. I have an idea for a route on the eastern side of the country but I’m not sure about the west. I’d use the Hope Valley to get into the North West part of England and I’d want to finish the tour with the Cumbrian Coast and Tyne Valley. Any ideas on which lines would be good to have the tour travelling on? Lines which frequently have or used to have pacers operating are best.

Being serious, Sheffield-Manchester-Barrow-Carlisle-Newcastle is quite a distance.

I doubt that much of the route north / west of Manchester has been cleared for use by Class 144. (Other than Morecambe/Lancaster/Carnforth/Hellifield)

That sounds good, I'd add Lincoln to Sheffield to that as it has a quite nice view.
I already have an idea for the eastern side, which would include some of that route (it’d come from the Grimsby and into Sheffield via Brigg

Although not really within the OP's boundaries, the route the Pacer Farewell Tour should take (in my opinion of course) is Scarborough-Whitby via all the extremities of the Northern network.

Newcastle to King's Cross which will muck up all other paths for the 7 hours it would take
With a smoking carriage!
