How about doubling the Barrow service, but only to Preston. Annoying, but everyone is headed somewhere. Manchester, Man Airport, Liverpool and of course London, Maybe Birmingham too, or north? It covers all of that.
And at 2-3tph, waits would on average be ok. Plus it gives higher frequency to Lancaster and Preston themselves, which have jobs/shopping/uni/leisure, of sorts.
We have to break this "XYZ to Manchester Airport" addiction. The Barrow line is a perfect example, Preston solves it. Uniform services, hub and spoke. It works. People will adapt.

Before the timetable change on 16May2020 Barrow (BiF) had 12 trains a day to Manchester Airport (MIA). In the timetable that's in use now BiF has 5 to MIA and 1 to Piccadilly. Cutting some of them back to Preston (PRE) and some of them going to Liverpool (LIV). So you could end up with something like this, an hourly service to PRE, a two hourly service to MIA and a two hourly service to LIV.
I was thinking about getting a Northern 55 west rover out midweek next week (09;30 first train) so getting the first one after the 09;30 start time BiF 09;58 arrive Lancaster 11;07, depart Lancaster 13;48. Or you can be a bad boy and get the 08;49 off BiF, arrive Lancaster 09;48 (this service used be direct MIA), depart Lancaster 10;32 arrive PRE 10;52. I don't think that I'll get one of these tickets midweek.
Hoe do you get RTT to show the new time table that starts on 14/12/20.

The forthcoming timetable is not yet publically available, but is due to be released on October 16th.
