Can anybody please tell me if engineering works are taking place this Saturday 10th October in the Portsmouth area. I am wondering the best route to get to London from Fratton but looking at National Rail Enquiries timetables i am baffled as to whether there are buses replacing trains on the Petersfield line. If they are, is the route via Barnham to Victoria or Eastleigh to Waterloo bus free? Thanks for any help.

Engineering works on Sunday via Petersfield. Not aware of any on Saturday.

If you put a search of trains from London Waterloo to Fratton for the Saturday they are showing trains at 30 mins past the hour with a warning of buses replacing trains but a travel time of 1hr 24m. That can't be right can it?

Southern to Victoria running Saturday but none Sunday

I don't know the answer to your question, I'm afraid, but National Rail Enquiries says there's engineering work all weekend:

Engineering work is taking place between Petersfield and Havant / Hilsea, closing various lines.

Great Western Railway:

Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour trains will operate between Cardiff Central and Warminster. A replacement bus service will run between Warminster and Southampton Central. Trains will run between Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour.

South Western Railway:

On Saturday, buses will replace trains between Petersfield and Havant. Train will run between Havant and Portsmouth Harbour.

On Sunday, buses replace trains between Petersfield and Portsmouth Harbour.

Southern:

Sunday only, buses will replace trains between Chichester and Portsmouth Harbour. Customers should use South Western Railway trains between Portsmouth Harbour and Southampton Central.

Clearly the Petersfield works are not yet uploaded - which is not very impressive!
Do they still (pre-Covid) run fast via Fareham when the Direct line is blocked as well as the regular semi fast?

There has been an hourly fast via Fareham on Saturday's recently when the direct has been blocked, which is not something I can remember being run for some time previously. Don't know if they will be running now because of Covid though.

Appears it's now been updated - just the hourly service now between London and Portsmouth via Eastleigh.

The South Western Railway service via Eastleigh is running throughout the weekend whilst the Southern service via Barnham is running on Saturday but not Sunday.
