59 vs 66

When the original FY CLass 59s were built EMD also gave FY a presentation bell with the signatures of the gang that built them engraved on a plaque. It was only 12 or so names - they were custom built. I saw the bell at the Merehead Quarry Open W/E 20+ years ago. I wonder what happened to it?

Thanks remember it from introduction when I 1st saw it passing Chalk Farm in London and 1 st thing I noticed was the bell. Was amazed seing a single 59 instead opf the prev 2x56's . Wasnt sure if it was still in place

Was it originally carried by 59.001?

No, it was always on a wooden plinth, I think. Way back, there was an article in RAIL (I think) that had a picture of it. It pointed up the difference between custom-built 59s and production line 66s. Judging by the corrosion on some 66/0s that I saw before retiring they had nothing like the quality of workmanship.
