Back in June, I posted a couple of times to ask people their views on my website https://timetableworld.com. The feedback was positive, and several volunteers and timetable collectors came forward to help relaunch the project. We have been working hard over the subsequent three months to expand the collection and to rebuild the website. Today (1st October) is when the new site was put live.

Timetable World is a digital archive. Rail enthusiasts have traditionally been the largest user group since the site started in 2009 but we aim to also cater for local historians, bus enthusiasts, map-philes etc and do so worldwide. There are now approx. 120 complete timetables and 70 railway maps available (51,000 scans) and we have a healthy pipeline of material to add quite soon. The GB WTT collection cannot be added until Network Rail has approved our request to do so.

You can read the previous forum posts as follows:

Two members of the team have been digitising using overhead scanners and others have helped with indexing work. We are very much on the lookout for more people to join the project; all the activities are home-based and are ideal as a creative and practical way to stay busy during the current restrictions.

Please explore the site and let us know of any faults you uncover. It is an archive, not a curated exhibition, so take the time to learn your way around. There are pages explaining more about the project and the technologies used but if you have any questions please ask via the email address given.

That's brilliant, you've clearly done a lot of work and nice to see some interesting additions. I have a collection of British and Irish timetables myself but I imagine you've plenty to be getting on with presently.

Can you please share a list of what you have via the email address on the website? It's true we have access to plenty of GB timetables, but involving more contributors is also a consideration.

Sure thing, I'll post list below as well for completeness:

Great Britain
(All public timetables)

- 18 June/9 September (inc.) 1962 British Railways Scotland (introduction of faster East Coast Main Line schedules with Deltic diesel locomotives and internal Scottish services such as Glasgow-Aberdeen with ex-LNER A4 steam locomotives)
- May 1974/May 1975 British Rail Scotland (first timetable after full electrification of the West Coast Main Line (WCML) to Glasgow, many improvements in frequency and journey time)
- May 1980/May 1981 British Rail Scotland
(some decelerations in WCML schedules)
- May/October Summer 1988 British Rail all-line
- May/October Summer 1990 British Rail all-line
- September 1991/May 1992 British Rail all-line (ECML electrification to Edinburgh, many significantly faster services, including on other InterCity routes)
- May/October 1993 British Rail all-line timetable (many decelerations after faster schedules proved too difficult to reliably maintain)
- May/September 1995 Summer ScotRail timetable

Northern Ireland
(Public timetables only)
- May 1985/May 1986 NI Railways all-line

Rep. of Ireland
(Working timetables)
- from 4 June 1972 CIÉ WTT (precasting for the significant improvements of the 1973 timetable evident and the Mk2D stock introduction during its currency from 4th December 1972.)
- from 27 June 1983 CIÉ WTT
- from 16 May 1988 IR WTT

(Public timetables)
- Summer 1962 CIÉ all-line
- from 2nd April 1973 CIÉ all-line (the famous "Supertrain" timetable, vastly improved service frequencies on all routes and many shortened journey times.)
- from 3 March 1975 CIÉ all-line (first tranche of service cuts)
- from 3 November 1975 CIÉ all-line (second tranche of service cuts)
- from 27 June 1977 CIÉ all-line (071 class locomotives introduced, some deleted services restored and some faster journey times)
- from 8 May 1978 CIÉ all-line
- from 14 May 1979 CIÉ all-line
- 12 May 1980/10 May 1981 CIÉ Mainline
- 28 June 1982 CIÉ all-line
- 27 June 1983 CIÉ Mainline
- 2 July 1984 CIÉ Mainline (introduction of Mk3 coaches and 90mph running, some faster journey times Dublin-Cork as result)
- 14 January 1985 CIÉ all-line (further Mk3 stock in service rolled-out to other routes, faster services on other lines as well)
- 1986 CIÉ all-line
- from 11 May 1987 CIÉ mainline (90mph running extended to Limerick Junction, further service accelerations)
- 2 June/6 June 1989 temporary CIÉ mainline TT
- from 15 May 1989 CIÉ mainline

Any questions feel free to PM or email myself.

Brilliant, thanks again for your work. So many great additions. I'm just getting a feeling for the new interface, but it seems to work well.

I am blown away by the USA timetables
It is bizarre but wonderful to be able to follow the journeys and see the timings we made in 1993 using a 21 Day RailPass on my first ever visit to USA
And get reminders of such details as
We wanted to travel on the Lakeshore as it was the sucessor to the 20th century Limited ( as featured in North by North West)
However the long demised Slumbercoaches only went from Boston on these so we took the Broadway instead as we were in NYC
