Just read an article on the Sky News website, detailing further laws and restrictions which seem to have been introduced somewhat under the radar.

Restrictions on singing and dancing (with certain exemptions) at hospitality venues and limits on how loud music can be played (live performances exempt) strike me as particularly militant.

The £50 fine for not telling work you are self isolating is another one they slipped in.

That's interesting. Do I have to tell my employer, even though I am effectively banned from their premises at the moment and have to work from home? Self isolating would make absolutely no difference to them. I would tell them, but I am not sure they'd be that interested really.

My employer told us last week we had to tell them if we were self isolating, so maybe they knew this was coming in. But nothing about the £50 fine; that really does seem stupid and difficult to police. Do the government expect employers to dob in their employees?!

I assume this is because the government will be paying the employer something towards your sick pay if your company is paying it. Plus it closes the circle if you are claiming sick pay (or whatever it is now called) from the government.

I find that odd though, you can walk into a fast food restaurant no music playing but yet walk into lets say a clothes shop and music could be blaring (not against any mentioned here) but its double standards and its stupid! I guess they want(governments) their customers to be "joyless".

This whole thing seems to be a money making machine, lets fine people now. Oh yes lets see if any politicians obey the rules and be fined but I don't hold out hope, be more of a slapped wrist.

I'll be grateful when music is turned down. I'm slightly hard of hearing and I struggle when the assistant is wearing a mask and is behind a perspex screen. I find it even more difficult if there's music playing, or in places like Costa where the coffee machine's making a lot of noise.

I may be showing my age... I remember background music used to drive my dear old dad up the wall.

I can understand having music played at a reasonable level, it just feels that no music on in certain areas is just a killjoy, I might not agree music that’s played ie shopping centres but when nothing is on it just feels eerie

I may as well stick to using my MP3 player walking about or is that the next step? (take it off you)

This whole situation has been a boon for the neo-puritans who would like to ban anything which could be considered 'fun'.

Totally agree, at least for me in the gym (not been yet going at weekend but last time I went to gym pre COVID)music was on or use my own but there is no need in this so called ban on music playing, but yes let’s all be depressed even further but of course politicians don’t care much about it.

Notification would only be required if you were expected to be at work (physically) during the self-isolation period.

I have no problem calling out pointless rules but these do have some justification. They are aimed at pubs and (to a lesser extent) sit-in restaurants. If they have loud music it means people who want to speak to one another are most likely to shout over the music, and shouting results a higher transmission distance for virus particles in your breath/saliva.

People in clothes shops do not tend to carry on long conversations (and nor do clothes shops tend to play loud music).

I must admit I don't miss loud music at all... but it does make some places rather devoid of atmosphere.

I was in Germany last weekend and I ended up in a pub with the Bayern game on. I was shocked that it was absolutely normal - the local fan club seemed to be there, the match was on loud, and people were shouting and celebrating (it was 8-0 so there was a lot of that!). If this kind of stuff is allowed in Germany, which is probably the best European country right now COVID-wise, then I do question why it is necessary here.

Well I could say if you are in Edinburgh or Glasgow especially the novelty shops the music is pretty much loud into the street so with that I guess it’s justified? Or having someone playing bagpipes playing in the street too (not against any of this) but for me this is where double standards are.

Shouting over people may cause transmission of virus particles, I was shouting over people 2 decades ago in a pub didn’t see them go down with anything other than a hangover! ... really? Sorry but that bull! How strange, sudden panic over shouting now may transmit Covid yet we have been doing this more than a decade and it’s a concern a la football, sporting events etc, come on even I can see that’s a lie (not you)

I went to watch a football game on Saturday. As you went in they were taking a name and number and writing down your temperature.

What was the point of writing down the temperature?

Especially when you add that three people in front of me were recorded as having temperatures of 32 degrees...

I love the fact that Gething still insists that "this is not a national lockdown" - even though just a few rural counties aren't under restrictions now.

(Image shows a cartoon of Boris Johnson stating that he will impose as many local lockdowns as necessary to avoid another disastrous national lockdown).

Breaking News:
After ‘following the science’ the Government has relented and said shopping centres and entertainment venues may now play songs from a pre-approved list. Initially, this will include those listed below, but may be added to before the legislation goes ‘live’ at midnight tomorrow...

Billy Idol - Eyes Without A Face
MC Hammer - Can’t Touch This
Bjork - It’s Oh So Quiet
Boney M - Gotta Go Home
Peggy Lee - Fever
ABBA - Under Attack
Chris Rea - Fool (If You Think It’s Over)
Boris Johnson - Say Hello, Wave Goodbye

Don't give them ideas, getting more like former East Germany by the day! Soon cinemas will only show approved films!

The new Welsh restrictions for North Wales.......
Yet again all the media is focusing on Boris and they’ve missed that the whole of Wales is now a few farm houses in Gwynedd and Powys away from a national lockdown

Mark Harper is a Conservative MP. He posted this thread on twitter about regulations which were announced on Sunday afternoon, to come into force 7 hours later, with "some very serious powers that were not in the statements made to Parliament last week"

Up in the North East, it seems now that socialising with anybody outside of your household is illegal indoors in any setting and "strongly discouraged" outdoors.

Having been a strong proponent of the first lockdown and even of a tightening of restrictions recently due to the rather high infection rate up here, it's now getting to the point where people's mental health is going to be on a faster downward slope once again. Myself included.

I accept that a minority behaving stupidly has accelerated the spread in recent times but when you've been following the rules since day one, only to be told, in essence, "this is your last chance to follow the rules before xyz" you do wonder why you bother.

I think the beer gardens of the North East are going to be busy this weekend.

Following on from which there will be a ban on socialising in beer gardens imposed next week.

Or people will travel outside the restricted area, maybe on a day trip to Edinburgh, which will no doubt please Mrs Krankie Nicola Sturgeon no end.

Alternatively, two blokes who want to meet for a drink could hold hands as they walk into the pub and pretend that they are a gay couple living together.<D
