A driver can't give a cab ride 'on the hoof', but they can be done. When I did one on work experience with Central Trains, I just had to have a cab pass and be accompanied by a driver manager for the duration of the trip. That was in 2004 though, so things may have changed since then.

I think 'Train Manager' is silly modern talk for train driver.

I did one with Northern this year on my Work Exp. Same here, i got a pass and accompanied by the Driver manager

I believe, at GBRF, for reason's best known to themselves, Train Managers are Train Drivers. They also have Assistant Train Managers, which basically seem to be Secondmen.

The one with the most bids is from Doncaster to Kirkby Thore and return, so (if my knowledge is up to scratch) takes in much of the Settle and Carlisle line.

ATM or Assistant Train Manager is basicly ground staff/secondman as already stated.

i was talking to one of your drivers a while ago is it true what he said that drivers even clean the loco they are going to use before it leaves the depot.

Sounds very Stobart - (IIRC Stobart were one of the first truck co's to require shirt and tie for drivers

Nice place Kirby Thor.
On the main line there is the signals to do almost any move.
The trucks are drawn into the sidings and the containers are off load by fork lift trucks and emptied in a big shed.
When the containers are empty they are loaded back onto the train ready for the engine to RR the train.
These trucks have to be examined to ensure all the containers fit bed of the trucks and all locikng devices are in the secure postition.
After the RR the train has to be brake tested ready for departure.
This time of year it is a pleasure to ride the Drag in both directions.
The ride upto Ais Gill summit is a big slog for a loaded train but if the trucks ety then the engine should fair bounce the train upto Garsdale and beyond.
