Hi

I purchased a ticket to a train stop two stops before my actual train stop (regretting it now). However, I gave him the address which he asked for the name but it wasn’t correct then he took my name (fake) and number (real) down but he couldn’t get any further details because I was off and in a rush. He then said, you’ll be getting a letter from me.

I have never gotten a fine and i am now worried because I don’t know if I can be tracked through my number. Does anyone know if this is so?

kind regard

So to be clear, you have given:
Fake name
Incorrect address (is this completely fake, an old address or a real address but not the address you reside).
Correct number (telephone?)

Also, I shall shortly report this thread to enable it to be moved to the disputes section where it is more appropriate and those with an interest in such cases are more likely to see it. You may well get more help that way too.

Yes, a real address but not the one I reside. and yes correct telephone number

and when did you do this roughly - ie a few days ago or long enough ago for them to have commenced action against you albeit with the wrong details?

And was this real address one you have ever lived at?

God forbid but yes a couple of days ago. Could I be traced? What are my chances looking like?

no it’s not an address I have lived at? Are the outcomes different?

It would depend - if the case goes to court and there is a chance a case in a fake name at the address you gave will now proceed through the system and could end up in court, be found guilty and a fine imposed, that fine will be sent to that fake address, Eventually there is a chance that a bailiff or debt collector will come to that address to collect the otherwise unpaid fine. The householder will say 'no one of that name here' I assume. If there was some sort of description of you from the interview you gave, or CCTV image, the householder might say 'that looks like Jo Bloggs who used to live here, he now lives at xxxx' and then they are off to find you.

In reality the chances of that are probably slim, unless you have some connection with the address you gave that could permit the above events to happen.

Also you should bear in mind that the staff who checked your ticket may be on duty again and look out for you, and take an interest in your ticket. Repeating the action would be seriously unwise.

I am afraid I don't know if you can be traced from your phone number by railway revenue enforcement or the court. Someone may be able to advise.

Giving false details is a more serious offence than just evading a fare (it's 2 offences for a start), so yes the outcomes are likely to be different.

okay thank you.

This was my first time doing such and I panicked a lot. I am not from that area and this was my first time visiting that area. Hopefully he hasn’t saved the data and nothing goes through.

no one at the address knows me - no. And it wasn’t the trains final stop, I really regret it honestly.
