Surely everyone knows Sir Ian Fosters report has killed IEP off and this is just Hitachi hoping some ill informed local politicians will jump up and down on the basis of "new jobs"- they tried the same trick on Tyne and Wear at the same time. More British jobs if we start building MK3 again anyway.

Not necessarily for the best...

A multi-route 'medium speed' - i.e. up to 125mph - coach built to modern day crash worthiness that is air conditioned, power-pointed, etc, etc wouldn't be such a bad idea...

If mk3s, mk4s and mk2s were really that obsolete they would never have bothered refurbishing them.

Maybe they should call it the 'mk5'

Building them and new electric or diesel locomotives would be a much cheaper and reliable alternative to the IEP program (if that's scrapped in October then I hope that loco and coaches alternatives are seriously considered)
