Advice for new trainspotter

Ah OK - sounds brilliant!
Sorry to keep asking questions, but did you get many numbers? I find that when there are lots of trains in quick succession I get confused with numbers and services!

Yes! I got the numbers of lots of trains. I was there for quite a while so I saw some of the same trains more than once!

I've made a folder full of all the trains I've seen and named each file accordingly.

From where you are would suggest Clapham Junction. May be worth arming yourself with a Travelcard and having a day around London. Would suggest going with a few mates or someone you know given your age. There are lots of like minded people of your age but be careful they are the age they say they are before arranging to meet anyone (sorry to mention it but do need to be careful in this day and age). One tip would give, keep a log of the trains you travel on as I didn't do that in the early days and regret it.

No problem, you'll find it a great hobby and most people keen to help. Possibly might want to join the Bluebell Railway (guessing that's closest one to you) as they have clubs for younger people? Railway I work at has one and they all get on well and organise trips so they can do things as a group.

It's always weird for me when I see the same unit twice in one day - only really happens when I go to Didcot and the like.
That's a really clever way of organising photos - all of mine are still the original file name my phone gave them and at this point changing them would be too much work!

Happens quite frequently for me as I live near a terminus. I use an app for logging numbers and it will say for example "220019 last seen at Cheltenham Spa at 15:56" if I put in a unit I've already seen that day.

I use "Trainspotter" from Google Play which does the same thing. Good app which can do all sorts including making notes which is valuable for recording haulage and services.
