Edinburgh Station - access?

I’m considering a trip to Edinburgh to watch the late night sleeper workings - would I be able get access to the platforms or are they the ‘wrong’ side of the barriers please?
I’ve always wanted to see this but it’s not until now I’ve been ‘local’ to the area through work and not needed to get up early. I say ‘local’ as I’m actually 80 miles away and don’t really fancy a 160 mile round trip if won’t see anything!
because of the time I’ll be in a car rather than by rail, sadly.

You can see basically all platform without getting through barriers, and certainly the ones the sleeper uses (although, make sure you explain to staff what you’re doing there)

As far as I know there's no access unless you are leaving the Fort William portion on the Southbound or boarding it on the North.

Certainly when I used the FTW seats and was changing coaches at Edinburgh, a couple of station staff were eager to know wether we were transferring to the rest of the train or leaving the station.

There is unlikely to be access to the view the Highland sleeper at the moment.

I think the best advice would be to travel to a station outside of Edinburgh where access isn't restricted.

Slateford/Kingsknowe to watch the whole train pass, and South Gyle to watch the Highland portion, or Edinburgh Park to watch the Fort William portion?

Edinburgh Park has Barriers so access is restricted sadly. I would recommend either Slateford or Wester Hailes, both on the same long straight section of track, good sight lines
