First glance it reminds me of the silver alphaline branded 158's. Think its a bit plain but im sure in time it will grow on me.

Now all that's needed is to move to purple line down a bit and make it redder and apply the door colour to the upper bodyshell... Oh and paint the lowermost part a sort of beige...

It looks neat and tidy, is easy (and cheap) to apply so it is fit for purpose.

I like it!

fit for purpose definitely, its been applied as basic as possible to allow the next TOC as cheaper repaint as possible, it has been funded by taxpayer so again cheap is neccesary and anyway i like it. Looks really nice on HST's and i think the same about the Mk4 sets.

It looks crap.
There's no thought been put into that design whatsoever.

The stripe appears to have been an afterthought, which looks completely out of place and ruins it.

Have they not painted a 91 to go with them?

So I take it you would prefer a livery that they had spent £000s on designing and was made up of about 10 different colours that takes weeks to apply, honestly some people just dont "get it" at all!

The colour is bland, like undercoat, but I'd understand that given that East Coast is 'temporary', but the stripe just looks totally stupid and wrong. The colours don't mix at all.

Maybe it will look okay in the flesh, but I am doubtful.

Still, the upside must be that nobody will accuse EC of wasting tax payers money now. In fact, they might find some tax payers actually give them some voluntary donations!

No, I'd prefer it without the stripe.

It's all very well just shoving your branding on something, but you have to make some effort to make it work. Something they clearly haven't done here.

they said they are doing a boring livery as a temporay thing till a new franchise holder is drawn, so it is easier for them (new franchise holder) to repaint. It is boring and no thought has gone into it because the TAXPAYER is paying for it and when cuts are being made as if they are going to spend money designing and implementing a new fancy livery? Effort costs money

It has done exactly what it said on the tin and for that i am glad. It will look better once new franchise holder starts its repaint.

it wasnt meant to be a good livery just a temporary one so you won't have to put up with it for long.

A single 91 was already in EC colours. the only one ever repainted into NXEC was converted like HST's

PINK???
Anyone else think First Group (God Forbid) May be inline for the East Coast Franchise?

As was posted elsewhere why not go for the Intercity livery and a logo (remember the old East Coast logo now used by Video 125?)

I remember cutting that from a Timetable and sticking it over the INTERCITY logo on my Lima Mk3's!

Good to see they haven't wasted lots of money, but it just seems a little TOO obvious that they haven't wasted, or by the looks of it even spent any money designing it..

Would you mind posting a link again as it does not work
it looks alright in the picture with the DVT leading although I thought they would have thought they would have put 91111 on the rear so it at least matches abit. Maybe they will for the launch

I think the stripe would have been better if it stopped after the EC logo on the DVT and didn't go up to the lights

Well, if I thought white was bad then at least now I know grey is as bad, maybe worse!

It looks like undercoat, and therefore unfinished, and the grey makes the train look old, boring and dull. You know when you're out driving on a dull, grey, overcast day or when it starts to rain? That's what this train reminds me of.

If they were going for a simple base paint for the benefit of the next TOC, why not go for black or, shock horror, just stick with white? Will this be any easier to keep clean?

Also, perhaps a thicker stripe would have made something more of the train even if it required a bit more vinyl. In fact, I'd have tried having the pink all the way from the stripe down to the base of the train and then had white East Coast writing/url. I think the grey might have worked better if it was only the top half.

Almost looks American. They might as well have just stripped all the paint off right back to bare metal, then just polish it to give exactly the same effect. As for the stripe, please change the colour!!!

I actually love it.

I bet most of you say it looks hideous because you want the old InterCity Swallow Livery back - well at least this makes the MK4 look modern, and I would definately use it.

Modern, Sleek, and fit for purpose.

If you've met Elaine Holt, I doubt you'd think she's some sort of Barbie girl that's into pink fluffy things!

Not at all. The Intercity livery would be a nice thing to have one day, if we change the way the network is branded as a whole (although it could be something all-new to reflect a new era of rail for all I care) but I am just looking at it as how one individual train looks. To me, it looks anything but new - it looks old and dated. I think black or white would have been more suitable 'base colours' for future branding, or a different design on the decals stuck on top.

But, yes, I agree that it is fit for purpose (as in the exterior colours makes no difference to its ability to operate as a train). It IS just a train and most people won't care. The fact is, it's done now and we can't waste money changing it. I just think the designer (or maybe they didn't have one?) didn't earn his or her keep on this.
