It's called a railway station!!!

Surely I can't be the only individual who find it REALLY annoying when professional rail companies etc use the term 'train station'. Please, please, please, it is called a railway station, it would be just like calling signals 'traffic lights'.

Surely I'm not the only person who gets really irate off this issue?

No, it's just when you look back in time, it has always been called a bus station, train station is just a recent term, until 20 years ago it was a railway station

Which after studying the fact that America tend to call them railroad or rail stations, and the French translates to train station, was the conclusion I reached

actually I use neither I say "station" if im going to say station but 99.9% of the time I say the name of the station

Equally, it is a Train Operating Company, called by the railway company name

Surely in the US it's the railroad depot? Pronounced dee - po, of course.
Personally, I couldn't care less what it's called as long as there is one handy and trains stop there.

I will sometimes skip "way" and say rail station (how bus timetables tend to represent stations), but I never say train station. I'm not American. I find it annoying as well (no because it's American; because it's incorrect).

And the term "road station" could in theory apply to anything. Not sure I like the idea of boarding a bus next to a coal loading area.

No but I did have a selection of old tickets confiscated once at Taunton.
