In 3 weeks time, I'll be going to London for the day, and because it's just one day, I'll have a very small window of opportunity, seeing as London is crammed with railway stations and high street shops. :D Work cut out already.

Within the confines of London, which flyover, footbridge or rail station (not St. Pancras as I found out on another topic) is best for photographing Eurostar trains? Or if its impossible inside London, how about just outside?

Thanks in anticipation.

if I remember right HS1 is in tunnel all the way though, AFAIK the only good place in london is st pancras, if not I think you could get a reasonable shot from the dartford crossings where (I think) the line comes out into the open for a short time before its thames tunnel

Rainham Marshes RSPB reserve ( nearest station Purfleet, ½ mile ).

The perimeter path inside the reserve runs really close to where the elevated part of HS1 passes over the c2c tracks, and the Sun is behind you as well so the lighting is excellent and the angle is good with no risk of bowlage for the up services.

One ( minor ) drawback - the view of the catenary is complemented by two National Grid power lines with a number of pylons...

You can really see the gradient on that last one! I've never seen an external shot/video of a main line route where it's so obvious!

You could try Camley Street Basin, on the Regent's Canal. Gives quite an interesting perspective:

Just come out of the back of St P, walk along Camley Street until you see the canal, then go down to the towpath and head SE towards the lock.

Wish I'd known about that on the opening day. Ended up down a side-street after being kicked off the platforms (along with quite a few other people). Still, I'll give it a go next times

Actually, the HS1 Domestic platforms give quite a good view of Eurostar departures, and the staff there are usually very understanding. I once turned up with a small dossier of prints for matching, and various people showed considerable interest. Failing that, Rainham is the furthest you can get on a Travelcard/Oyster, and has a half-decent view from a footbridge over the line (if you don't mind a few wires in the way). It also has a rather curious level crossing on the LT&S line, which basically goes nowhere.
