Easily possible but it wouldnt be wise to drop back to hourly. The economic and political backlash would be rather large.

Only on Saturdays in the latter Anglia Railways days. For some reason the XX:00 from Liverpool St (always Colchester & Ipswich only) had Stowmarket & Diss inserted. Only for a couple of timetables.

Long gone are the days where a catchment of a station was the population of the town. Diss is a great example which can attract people from a large part of south Norfolk due to the position of other routes.

I know people who prefer to drive to Diss from Belton & Gorleston when doing business in London.

If I recall correctly that was in the mornings only for shoppers.

While Stowmarket is an expanding town I haven't seen the demand there for an additional off peak London service per hour as quite a number will only be travelling as far as Ipswich. Also if it all goes to plan the existing services connect with the Cambridge trains for Bury St Edmunds.
