Class 220, 221 or 222? which is better?

Yesterday (7th July 2010) i travelled on an East Midland Trains Class 222 from Derby to Loughborough to Visit the Great Central Railway for the first time, nice day out and afterwards, travelled on another East Midland Trains 222 from Loughborough to Leicester, i travelled on the Class 220/221 an lot but the Class 222 as soon as i sat down i really liked them, the seats are comfy, loads of space, an whole lot different from the Voyagers and Super Voyagers, juist wondering if people like the Class 222's or pefer the 220/221's

I've never travelled on a 222 but my opinion has always been that they made improvements based on the feedback from the 220/221's?

Plus their profile is better as they do not have to cater for tilt (even though the 220's don't tilt, I understood the body shell was the same as the tilting 221's)

I've travelled extensively on all 3 classes, and the 222 is far and away better than the 220 and 221 "Voyagers" and "Super Voyagers". On the 222s, the seating layout is better laid out, the seats themselves are more comfortable, and the ride quality is better.

Plus, the 222s even have a "proper" number of carriages in some cases

I thought that the same basic bodyshell was used for all three 220, 221 and 222 classes, so they would be the same profile?

220/221 tbh no different in ride quality when inside apart from (most) 221s have that much needed extra coach!

To be honest the ride quality of all 3 classes is not great IMHO. The one plus side i think the 220/221's have is that the seats are better by that i mean there not as high backed as the seats on the 222's. I dont think you feel quite so closed off from everyones

Agreed, I'm always surprised just how "lumpy" the 220s and 221s appear to be for a streamlined train! 222s look much sleeker (got a comparison picture too):

222s are much better, but then they did have the advantage of learning from the "mistakes" of the 220/221s

220s and 221s are the same thing to me, it would make more sense to have them numbered as 220/0s and 220/1s
