A very surprising journey

I had a very surprising journey this morning! The train from east Croydon to London bridge was a Gatwick Express

:roll: Would that have been the 0833 from East Croydon? If so, it's operated by Southern using Class 442 "Gatwick Express" stock, and what's even more surprising is that it doesn't even call at Gatwick Airport on its journey in to London Bridge from Eastbourne.

yes it was the seats are quite nice!

How do I find the timetable for this service (the ones that use the class 442 stock)?

All Gatwick Express trains are operated by Southern, as Gatwick Express is not a TOC, it's now a brand name. This particular service may be in Gatwick Express livery but that doesn't mean it's operating a Gatwick Express service. Trains at East Croydon often turn up in a different livery to what you might expect!

There are regular diagrams for the 442s but I can't remember what they are, but there aren't many of them. If the 0833 is convenient for you, then aim to get that each day!

The 20.49 Brighton to London was a 442 last Thursday, also not stopping at Gatwick, which amused me as we hurtled through. Hadn't been on a 442 since SWT operated them, so ot was quite nostelgic

The 06:24 Eastbourne to London Bridge service and the 18:23 London Bridge to Eastbourne are also formed of 442 'Gat Ex' branded stock.

The 18:23 also does not call at Gatwick Airport.
