Just wanted to ask for peoples opinion on if with the extras Hst‘s from LNER and GWR, would it possible for XC to run some trains from Liverpool to the South/South West in the near future?
Fingers crossed. I think that will be a similar problem for extra avanti west coast Liverpool to London trains, no capacity at Euston.
They'd need sufficient demand to justify it too.
There are NO extra HSTs for XC.Just wanted to ask for peoples opinion on if with the extras Hst‘s from LNER and GWR, would it possible for XC to run some trains from Liverpool to the South/South West in the near future?
There are NO extra HSTs for XC.
Surely if there are extra's they should go on the existing network first to relieve congestion and double up voyagers elsewhere. LNER's HST's are going to EMR until the end of the year when they will get replaced.

It isn’t happening. Just how many threads do we have to have about so called “spare HSTs” and XC?Surely if there are extra's they should go on the existing network first to relieve congestion and double up voyagers elsewhere. It’s about using the HSTs XC already have, on more days of the week, and a few extra 170 centre vehicles. It’s been covered in numerous previous discussions. This implies otherwise unless lockdown really is getting to me in which case off to Vision Express I trot:

No it doesn't. Read it more carefully. They are getting two extra power cars which will enable them to run more of their existing HST carriages. This implies otherwise unless lockdown really is getting to me in which case off to Vision Express I trot:

Right thanks, and that'll enable Vomiters to run in pairs elsewhere. So nothing for Liverpool. Sorry Liverpool; you'll still have to travel via Wolverhampton, Manchester or Leeds. I think Wolves guarantees a same platform change more than Stafford.

There isn't any capacity via Birmingham to operate to Liverpool without axing a Manchester service and diverting it to Liverpool (which considering they are busy is a bad idea)
The LNER HSTs will then follow the EMR HSTs to the scrapyard.
I think it all stems back to 2003 when Liverpool lost its connections beyond Birmingham via virgin xc when all these Services were withdrawn sadly. Most of the threads on this note that it simply isn't practical for any location to have through trains to every other one. As an example, Leeds and Bournemouth are both on the XC network - there aren't any through trains between them, Cardiff and Sheffield are both on the XC network - no through trains there either. I don't get the fixation with Liverpool needing to be linked with destinations south of Birmingham.
Liverpool and Birmingham are connected twice every hour. Manchester and Birmingham are connected twice every hour. Where the trains go after Birmingham is of pretty much no consequence to a large percentage of their users. The trains which run between Manchester and Birmingham are serviced at Longsight in Manchester, the trains which run between Liverpool and Birmingham are serviced at Crewe.
How will more power cars alone add to capacity? Or will it mean the carriages they have spend more time in service? No it doesn't. Read it more carefully. They are getting two extra power cars which will enable them to run more of their existing HST carriages.

The latter. With hindsight it’s been fairly obvious that every HST operator had a certain proportion of spare power cars to take total numbers well above twice the number of coach sets. I find it odd that XC have taken over ten years to work that out...How will more power cars alone add to capacity? Or will it mean the carriages they have spend more time in service?
If you were to run a service from Liverpool to the south west, surely running it via Shrewsbury would be the sensible option.
Such a service was run back in Reggie Rail days.
Which is an example of the nonsense that privatisation has brought about as although it would dip into Wales, the service wouldn’t call at any stations in Wales. (Crewe-Salop-Hereford-TM)
Right, but that requires it to be run by Transport for Wales who will run it to Cardiff, not the South West of England.
Currently planned by December 2022 (by extending the Halton Curve service)

“Require it to be run by Transport for Wales”? Is that true for all services that cross the Welsh border and if so, how are GWR, XC and Avanti allowed to run services in the Welsh nation?

I wasn't referring to the future Liv-CF service but a possible XC service Liv-TM and beyond. The N-S through Salop has to be TFW rule puts the mockers on it despite not calling at any Welsh stations.Isn't it going via Chester and Wrexham rather than Chester and Crewe?
Except that XC are only diagramming four sets per day. The current 10 power cars (i.e. 80% availability required) is in theory enough but a) a small fleet means a failed power car has a disproportionate effect and b) Laira are glacially slow at heavy maintenance these days. The latter.
