East Midlands Trains will be launching a new TV ad this week. Here's a sneak preview before it goes live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D00cwvJRclY

It's part of their Summer Value campaign promoting leisure travel to London with cheap Advance Fares. Breaking from the norm, they're drawing attention to the return price based on two single AP fares.

Do you think more train companies should be transparent with their pricing like this? Or does it make sense to promote single fares?

More info on their London page: http://www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/EMTrains/YourDestinations/London.htm

they're drawing attention to the average return price based on two single AP fares.
What makes you think the phrases "for under £32 return" or "from just £24 to £34 return" refer to average return prices.

I don't believe these correspond with any definition of the word average - mean, median or mode.

Have you signed up purely to promote EMT or do you have other reasons to join this forum?

If you have a vested interest you really ought to make it clear.

Yep the initial post seems to favoured to EMT, so I should point out other TOCs are just as good, and cheap, and it is just as comfortable to walk Liverpool-Norwich than get the stock they lay on.

Yeah but if you live along the MML and you wish to visit London you're not going to use vermin are you?

Just to introduce myself: I work on the East Midlands Trains website, so do have a particular interest in that TOC, but I also work with East Coast and have previously worked with South West Trains, National Express East Coast and worked for many years at Sea Container's owner of the GNER franchise. I have a vested interest in the industry as a whole and specifically in the promotion of train travel.

Slang for a Voyager

The Meridians on the MML are Voyager's slightly better looking sister, aren't they? I'm not complaining against the company, just that first post was a bit propogandered to EMT

So after (i) replacing comfortable HSTs with appalling Meridians on most services to/from Sheffield & (ii) introducing undrinkable 'coffee' (see separate thread) on said trains, Souter rail is now boasting about return fares of £32 when, less than three years ago, you could regularly go with Midland Mainline for less than £20 return.

As I have said before, I prefer to travel Doncaster to Kings Cross nowadays.

However, in response to the original question I agree that it is better to promote a return fare - after all, most people to want to come home :D- just a pity the EMT 'customer offer' is so poor.
