A friend worked Levisham Signel Box 1n 1979 and there was discussion about extending to Rillington at the time
One of the main problems was Black Bull Crossing
It would seem that I've opened up a big can of worms here
Ok all I'm saying is the main line at Dawlish was washed away in 2014
As sure as god made little green apples it will happen again maybe not at Dawlish but somewhere else nearby
In an arguement with the sea, the sea usually wins
I have been on trains along that section when the sea has been hitting the carriage windows
All I'm saying is there some way Dawlish could be avoided in the event of 2014 being repeated
Is there a route from Newton Abbott to Oakhampton or some other way to Exeter that could avoid Dawlish
Concerning Disused railways, ok so the tracks have been ripped up but some of these railways went through some of Britains most picturesque countryside
Ok so tracks can't be replaced and a lot of disused lines have been turned into cycleways, bridleways and walkways so why not develop them further
How about using them a coach routes for people who can't ride horses, ride bicycles or are just to frail to walk far, or take it further, why not use horse drawn coaches in the summer
Just imaging all the revenue it would develop for someone
Some bridges may have to be replaced
In that way a lot of people would be able to see the views people on trains used to see

The Okehampton Line which branches off at Crediton used to continue over Meldon Viaduct, to Tavistock and over to Bere Alston (that’s why trains currently reverse there to go to Gunnislake). I personally think that SWR should extend their hourly services to travel on this loop calling at: Exeter St Davids, Crediton, Okehampton, Tavistock and Bere Alston before heading back to Plymouth and Exeter via Dawlish and also vice versa. It would be every 2 hours each way, with trains probably passing in the meldon area, just east of the viaduct (it would be a single line). If it had other passing loops (e.g at stations like Tavistock) then it could certainly be used as a diversionary route. However, I don’t think you can put in a curve at St Budeaux to head towards Liskeard. You would have to reverse at Plymouth most likely.
