I was looking at the WCML WTT for Preston for todays date to get an idea of the train services through Preston, the major station local to me.
There are a number of issues as a result of Covid. The main one that struck me is to do with TPE .
Most of the Scottish services stop or start at Preston, not at one of the Manchester stations...
Any reasons for the non standard TPE services to and from Scotland ?

Most of the trains are empty, so lots of direct services are not running.
AWC are running to Glasgow and TPE to Edinburgh, with Northern providing the service to Manchester.
Last Saturday 1M21 from WBQ to EUS was a 5 car Voyager and was totally empty until MKC when it picked up a few passengers of 1A06 & 1A07 which had terminating there.
And even after taking the load from 2 Pendo's there was still plenty of social distancing.

Seems that the OP answered their own question in the original question.
Non standard timetables for all operators due to the COVID virus.

At least you can give an example of how little the trains are being used!...Almost a case of why run any trains at all!

As mentioned TPE running Edinburgh services from Preston and Avanti West Coast the Glasgows.

TPE WCML services are now all booked for Class 397s(no Class 185's booked anymore).

Are the Glasgow to Liverpools running?

No.
There aren't any Liverpool-Blackpool services either, just an hourly stopper as far as Wigan.
So you would need to change at Wigan for Glasgow on Avanti (and again at Preston for Edinburgh on TPE).
There's just one TPE Liverpool-Newcastle-Edinburgh through service at 0954, otherwise 2-hourly to Newcastle.

Liverpool to Blackpool Northern services returning from Monday.

One train per day Liverpool to Glasgow from Monday and most Edinburgh TPE services running through to the Airport from Monday too.
