How can I get the full Edinburgh to Glasgow fares on Avantix Traveller?

Edinburgh to Glasgow Cen/Qst and Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen St only have weird fares, missing out the usual SDS, SDR, SVR, SOR. Edinburgh to Glasgow Central only has XC only and EC only.

(Incidentally, why is there a super cheap £1.90 XC only single?)

The version I have shows all the fares
Which version of NFM are you using?

The fares are quite specific depending on the stations you select :
GLASGOW CEN/QST
GLASGOW CENTRAL
GLASGOW QUEEN STREET

The fares from Glasgow Queen Street are for flexipasses only (thus passengers cannot use any of the services from Glasgow Central)

(Incidentally, why is there a super cheap £1.90 XC only single?)
Have you ever travelled on these?
The journey time is slightly long compared to travelling from Glasgow Queen Street
Equally, the services are not well used
Last summer I used the 20:48 Glasgow - Edinburgh twice and on the first occasion there were just 4 passengers arriving into Edinburgh at 22:32, but on the second occasion I was the only passenger and it arrived at 22:02

I just looked on NFM05 and they are there. I was using NFM06.

Used that route on East Coast. Yes, it takes longer but East Coast only charge a bit less than Scotrail. I suppose XC only have a couple of trains a day but still weird that the fare is SO low!

The East Coast services don't go via Brunstane as well do they?
Also, the XC services are "very off-peak", unlike the East Coast ones which are more within the normal travelling time patterns; in effect the XC services are simply positioning jobs (such as the 20:48 Glasgow - Edinburgh)

Oh, I didn't realise XC went through Brunstane. I thought they went via Carstairs like EC. I suppose they don't need to as they aren't electric.

Technically, they don't. Mon-Fri 2048 Glasgow Central - Edinburgh goes via the Edinburgh Suburban line (Slateford Junction - Craiglockhart Junction - Portobello Junction). The Suburban line passes opposite the single Millerhill line through Brunstane station.

But there is no access from the Suburban line to the Millerhill line without reversing at Newcraighall. So the route is not regarded as passing through Brunstane for the purposes of the National Routeing Guide.

This is similar to the position at Dore & Totley where trains on the nearby Midland Main Line are not regarded as passing through the station for routeing purposes.

Yes, was aware of the station, but meant more the route and area
Passing Brunstane station would mean reversing back twice, rather pointless!

The train I was on passed through Brunstane twice, then went back to Slateford, wasting 30 minutes doing so

I know paths are at a premium through Haymarket, but putting XC services via Brunstane seems daft
I could understand doing this if they were ECS

My understanding is that XC send 2048 Glasgow Central - Edinburgh and 0533 Edinburgh - Dundee via the suburban line to keep drivers' route knowledge up to date.

The 0533 Edinburgh - Dundee is booked via Dunfermline for the same reason.

Quite similar to the Class 158 that swaps at Cumbernauld off the Glasgow QS - Cumbernauld services, runs once to Motherwell, back to Cumbernauld
The 156 then swaps on to the Glasgow QS service, then back on the Motherwell
Thus allowing Motherwell drivers to gain route knowledge for the Class 158 which is due to take over from September

What service is this? I thought 158s couldn't call at Coatbridge Central because of issues with the doors or something?

As far as i'm aware, that movement is empty coaching stock from Eastfield to Glasgow Central via mossend, the Motherwell driver is only there to route conduct from Garnqueen North junction to Mossend North junction. Central Conductors do not currently sign class 158's so the unit cannot work in passenger service from Cumbernauld to Motherwell. I do not think there are any clearance issues with the doors me123, certainly not on the up side anyway, but i'm obviously not qualified to say for sure.

For the last two weeks a Class 158 has been operating a single daily return service Cumbernauld - Motherwell - Cumbernauld

Normally it arrives on the Glasgow QS - Cumbernauld (which is a pair of units)
The Motherwell Class 156 then gets "dumped" at Cumbernauld until the 158 returns from Motherwell, the 156 having been taken out of the siding so that the 158 can be "dumped" until the next Glasgow service arrives, and the 156 then resumes the service

However on Wednesday it was swapped round, I assume the 158 went to Motherwell (for other routes) as the 156 was not sitting at Cumbernauld whilst the 158 worked on the Motherwell, but a 156 returned on the next service

Also the time seems to vary
The first time I saw it (must have been Monday 14 June) was around 10:00
The following day no swap took place until around 14:00
On the Friday it was the last northbound service, with the Class 158 leading

I do not understand this, Glasgow Central conductors do not sign class 158's, the movement I described in my previous post is 5y86 from Eastfield to Glasgow Central high level. It is usually a 4 car and has been running for quite some time, 8 or 9 months anyway. That said, Central Crews are currently being trained on 158's but this is taking place on a static unit at Queen street, or sometimes Central. No-one has signed them as yet.

I got a tipoff that this was taking place and managed to see the first one
This is all part of crew route training, so the entire east of Glasgow is 158 and 170 (not a 156 in sight)

The 158 has LOADS of staff on it, somewhere around 12 to 15
The staff change ends on arrival at Cumbernauld, using the platform rather than walking through the unit!

Glasgow Central staff may not currently sign Class 158s, but they will be doing so from September and not just on the Motherwell - Cumbernauld route

Understood, this will be for driver training then?

Going back to the original question, any reason why Edinburgh to Glasgow fares are missing in NFM06?

I've already answered it, you need to put in the correct search stations
All the fares appear in mine, but you need to search from the station names I posted

It appears radamfi is right. Where are the 'any permitted' fares? If you've found them in NFM06, rail-britain, could you please tell us how?

BTW, very frustrating wading through lots of irrelevent posts about 158's and staff training.

You have my apologies for that bnm, it was indeed irrelevant to the thread. Radamfi, have you tried glasgow cen/qst TO edinburgh? The fares are reversible and apply in each direction.

I was at work at the time of posting, and mobile internet isn't great. I've just gone back to this page and the Down platform has now been cleared for door opening (along with a lot of other things, including the Whifflet line).

Did anyone ever work out how to do this and get the fares to appear? I couldn't even get them to appear in London Midland's WebTIS except by doing a search on NRES for "Glasgow" to "Edinburgh" and selecting the LM website to buy the tickets from.

I note NFM07 is still missing the main Glasgow to Edinburgh fares.

Have you tried origin: 0433 GLASGOW CEN/QST, Destination: 9328 EDINBURGH.

Lots of fares, but the ones you'd usually expect like CDR at 10.70.

Sorry if I have mis-understood your post.

NFM07 AT lists the following 'simple' fares for 0433 to 9328:
(prices for one adult with no discounts)
  • First Class Anytime Day RTN FDR = £32.30
  • Std Class Anytime Day RTN SDR = £18.70
  • First Class Anytime Day SGL FDS = £16.70
  • Std Class Anytime Day SGL SDS = £11.50
  • Std Class Off-Peak Day RTN CDR = £10.70
  • Std Class Off-Peak Day SGL CDS = £10.60
If there is more I have missed them!

Sorry, my mistake. I must have been using NFM06. It looks to be corrected in NFM07.
