I think that Southern will get then they would be 387/1s from Great Northern and the 379s from GA would go to great Northern.

If it were my decision, then southern would get all 26 of the EMR 158s, refurbished. The remaining 171s would go to Chiltern.

Also, the 387/1s from Great Northern would be reclassified as 377/8s. And the Southeastern 377s would go to Southern and be replaced on southeastern by ex-SWR 458s.

This would provide enough rolling stock to replace the 313s and 455s, giving southern a fleet consisting only of 377s and 158s.

The door cycle on 158s and narrow access simply would kill the timetable - there is no chance of them going to Southern.

Why? They aren't 377s. If they were they would already be 377/8s.

Don't forget those 2 tunnels on the Uckfield line don't they have gauge clearance issues.

Apologys if this has already been said, but i just wanna say that if southern get more electrostars, then they would be 387/1s from Great Northern and the 379s from GA would go to great Northern.

All very unrelated to Battery Powered Electrostars. Not only that 158s are useless for the GTR commuter network that require quick boarding/ alrighting. More over, why would SE what an even mash-up fleet compared to Southern?

Speculative ideas this should be.

Agreed! I have moved this into a new thread, but if any of you (or anyone else) spots anything like this in future, if you can press the report button on the post in question that would be greatly appreciated, thanks! :)

I had a similar idea so thought I would see if there is already an applicable thread.

Yes, Greater Anglia 379s could go to Great Northern. Then the 387/1s with third-rail kit could replace the 313s with Southern. Renumbering the 387s as 377/8s would provide Southern with some consistency too.

Any spare 387/1s could make a start on replacing Southern 455s too, as could 458s from SWR, shortened to 4 carriages if necessary.

That's a lot of moving stock around for not much gain frankly... Capacity decrease on GN, there would be no "spare" 387s as there are 20 313s and not that many more 387/1s, after the pain of reforming 458s to 5 car why would anyone want to shorten them to 4 car again, and they are relatively bespoke etc etc. Plus renumbering is more a paperwork and money handling exercise that isn't really necessary...
