I think that 23 Class 465s would be enough to enable the entire Class 466 fleet to be scrapped with 12 Class 707s to replace the cascaded Class 465s.

That means a extra 2 coaches across all routes affected which is good as it means more seats and helps futureproof the service.

Yes it means running 4 car trains on the likes of the Bromley Branch but in hindsight, if it means longer trains elsewhere then surely that's a good thing?

At the same time, the Govt should agree to allow a order for more Class 700s including improved stabling especially in the Bedford area which would cease the use of 8 cars on 12 car services except of course the positioning moves needed to get the units on or off depot.

Lots of speculation, but nobody knows then.
Because Siemens would manufacture a DOO capable train where the driver can only use it's functionality in the front 5 coaches... It's not speculation when it's relatively obvious surely?

Apart from the video evidence of a 10 car train with 10 door images....

But there's more than 10 doors on a 10 car train :rolleyes:. But I do subscribe to the theory that all 10 cars are able to be monitored.

Slip of the tongue perhaps to use "door image" but seeing as there's only 1 camera per vehicle side, having 10 of them is the "proof" that they work across units.

Considering at SWT/R they mainly run in 10 cars, if SWT were to specify DOO (which they obviously did) they would specify it for 10 cars across 2 units.

A new order might not be for further class 707s if Siemens have made any design changes, but they could be specified to be multiple working compatible. If they were, it would restrict the tender down to one bidder and might make it uneconomical.

I doubt that it would be in Siemens’ best interests to outprice themselves.

Indeed, but they might not be able to beat a total fleet replacement from a better value operator.

So you reckon Siemens would build (and Angel accept) a unit that is designed to operate in multiple sets of 10-cars without that capability? There is a blindingly obvious answer.

Any new order would be MASSIVELY large than the existing fleet of 707s, so why would compatability with them be important? If Bombardier or Hitachi or whoever offer a great deal to replace everything, including the 707s, that's what will happen, as with SWR and indeed Great Anglia where perfectly decent 360s and 379s are being replaced.

Agreed. Perhaps time will tell whether the prospect of maintaining the 707s alongside a much larger fleet (as the 376s are now) is tenable. Their spell at SE will either be very long, or only a few years - we shall have to wait and see.

The 376s are a similar fleet size and have stayed, the 707s I expect to stay long term but I wouldn't be suprised if they go elsewhere, like Great Northern.

What use would Great Northern have for five car units? They wouldn't be suitable for Moorgate due to the lack of cab-end stairs.

Extend to 6 cars, run as 12 cars to replace 365s and cascade 387s

You'd need a complete interior refurbishment for starters + toilets installing. Not saying it's impossible, but it would be a fair deal of work.

Toilet could come in the extra carriage to make them into 6 car sets, I would install the seats in class 700 first class throughout the train if it were to go to GN.
