How is the train from New Cross Gate powered?

I've no idea why I can suddenly remember this. Like many people I'm furloughed at the moment with too much time on my hands :D

About three years ago I caught a train with my friend from New Cross Gate station in Peckham to Whitechapel where we changed for the city centre.

I recalled at the time seeing neither a pantagraph nor a third rail, and it didn't obviously seem to be a diesel either. What socerery was this?

It was an Overground train ?

Maybe, but I clearly recall looking really hard for it. And my eyesight ain't that bad yet!
I can categorically assure you that everything from Highbury & Islington to New Cross, West Croydon, Crystal Palace and Clapham Junction via Surrey Quays is powered by 3rd rail.

Although for the avoidance of doubt, there are other platforms alongside at Highbury & Islington that use OLE.
