Nice vids, but can somebody explain the reasons why 50035 is in Load Haul livery? I thought 40145 was bad in its unauthentic ice cream van livery, but this has to be preservation gone insane!

Because the owner(s) decided he wanted it in Load Haul? After all, if you own the loco you can do want you want with it.

Oh and 40145 went into 'large logo' because of a sponsored repaint. Simple = paint is neccessary to protect loco, paint costs money, limited (to an extent) cash, someone comes along to repaint for no charge...It's a no brainer.

I agree with Chester025, my mates asked a chap this last year at the gala and I can tell you that 035 is in Load Haul because when the owner worked for LH he rekoned a 50 would look good in the livery.

I think 40145 looks great in Large Logo personally I think it really suits it well, as Chester said paint costs money, lots of it too

How many fee paying CFPS members actually wanted 40145 painted in that livery? I could be tempted to donate towards it by travelling on railtours etc. and taking part in raffles, and perhaps even join the CFPS but my money would obviously be going to waste as it hasn't been repainted back despite a lot of people disagreeing with it.

Many disliked the livery, but very few (if any?) boycotted doing tours behind it. It was going to get repainted it last summer, however plans for that fell through. Priority at the moment is of course to maintain 145 and getting 135 fixed.

It all comes down to 'putting your money where your mouth (or keyboard is!). The CFPS would be quite happy to paint 40145 in another colour if someone comes up with the cash - this was actually discussed at the AGM, but obviously the potential sponsorship didn't happen. If it had, the repaint would have happened. I'm sure most CFPS members would prefer money being spent on getting a broken loco fixed (135 needs major expenditure to get it working) than on an unneccesary repaint to make an already working one look nice.

One of those who masterminded the restoration and spent 1000s of hours on it wanted the loco in LoadHaul, so there it is. Personally, I'd rather see it in a more authentic colour scheme, but given that I didn't do all the restoration work, I think that the opinions of those who did carry a bit more weight!

Correct. Lucky for me I'm not a 50 fan so I'm not missing much, and similar to the 40 even if I was I wouldn't travel on it, out of principle.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, that's the hobby for you. I'm finishing off my side of the argument now.
