9 sets = 3 diagrams. There is only 1 off peak 379 Camb diagram, those three are morning in and out of Liv St only. How many Cambridge workings are there in total and probability of getting a 317 over a 379? Very high.
In fact myself and others have been saying GA should keep the 379s, they will certainly be needed even when the 720s have arrived. Also there cannot be any more 379 diagrams since they do not have the MTIN figures for a 29/30 fleet utilisation either and are not diagrammed accordingly.
I've no idea what info you've got but I can say there's probably a good 40% chance of an off peak Cambridge being a 379. Unfortunately as I understand it the 379 fleet comes off lease in the summer (August?) And is earmarked for Gautrain. It would be ideal for them to remain on WA until 720 has arrived but sadly I don't believe this will happen.

On weekdays there is only one pair of 379s off peak and six pairs of 317s. At weekends there are four or five pairs of 379s so the probability swings in favour of 379s.

Oh of course, at weekends there are tons of 379s about, more diagrams than 317s the way I understand it. I was referring to weekdays only. As for gautrain, that rumour came out of thin air. No second hand EMUs have ever been shipped halfway round the world before.

Did I read somewhere that if on the off chance they do go to South Africa to bolster their fleet, it wasn't all the 379s that where required?

Doesn't the Pyongyang metro use second hand Berlin U-bahn trains?

North Korea has to curcumvent international sanctions and will spend as much as it needs to do it. They also use Chinese locomotives and the predecessor subway cars to those U-bhan ones were Chinese anyway. Let's keep it to the capitalist world for simplicity.

@dk1 I heard something like that.

It's because their current stock is Electrostar and obviously bombardier no longer make that product

Please can we stick to updates regarding what is actually happening with rolling stock used on Greater Anglia services.

If anyone wishes to post ideas or suggestions or rumours then this may be best posted as a new thread in the Speculative Ideas section.

If anyone wishes to post about rolling stock going to any other train company, please create a new thread in the appropriate forum section.

Thanks! :)

0800up is booked for 90/DVT
2030dn is booked for 90/DVT
2130dn should be 90/DVT but sometime in the future maybe Renatus 321 if enough 745s are not available.

Are the 745s on Weekend Norwich diagrams yet?

I have seen 010 on the Norwich - Shenfield services over the past two days.

There are no through services to London at weekends until April but given the number of 745s available at least one should be out and about.

Was passing Kirby Cross at 11:42 this morning and saw a train in the up platform which is very unusual.
I couldn't get a good look at it but I think it might have been a class 379
Any suggestions on what it was doing there?

Not sure what the 379 was doing but there was one about at Colchester earlier so assume you are right. Might be some sort of contingency planning for the 720’s

Up trains always use the Up platform at Kirby. Only ECS workings use the down platform.

Not surprising and I don’t think there’s been any official acknowledgement by GA of this but this report in the EADT states that the introduction of the Aventra fleet has been delayed until the Autumn, with full roll not for 12-18 months, (well into next year).

Better late than never to admit that I suppose. 720s were never going to be ready until a few months after testing began and as far as I can tell, despite a unit or two having been delivered some time ago, testing still hasn't begun.

What that article doesn't mention of course is that spring 2020 was already 15 months behind schedule...

It also doesn't mention what stock will be used instead.

It does say "Ms Patel called for any financial penalties imposed over a failure to deliver the new trains on time to be passed onto commuters" which seems shocking. If she gets her way, not only will commuters not get new trains as promised, but also they will have to pay more to cover the financial penalties! Will the Conservatives do everything to protect the private franchise operators?

I read it that she wanted any financial payments made from Bombardier to Greater Anglia to be passed on to commuters. What on earth does the woman think GA can do about software issues?

Yeah, I read it as any penalties (paid by Bombardier to GA) should be passed on to commuters (ie reduced ticket prices).

What on earth does the woman think GA can do about software issues?

Perhaps if GA were to start bullying Bombardier they'd get the software done quicker :P

On a related note there's plenty of 720s floating about at Litchurch Lane visible from passing trains. Google's latest satellite imagery also shows plenty of vehicles put wherever they can fit them!

I was told weeks back that the issue has nothing to do with software. I am told there are no software or hardware issues other than what may crop up during test running - whenever that starts. Why do people keep banging on about software?

O

The reason for Bombardier and Greater Anglia being a bit wishy-washy about it all will be because GA and/or DfT (possibly even Network Rail) will now be involved in litigation over alleged breaches of contract. Every comment about it has clearly been vetted by solicitors. Any court action will be stayed until the project is completed and any losses can be calculated. That's why they're not going at each other in public.

The Government has had to shelve the big announcement about a new franchising/concession model for the railways. Expect to see Bombardier and Burles et al in a Parliamentary Committee hearing once the world calms down again.
