Night Riviera Sleeper and "London Terminals"

Just booked a ticket from Paddington to Penzance on the sleeper using GWR's website. Gutted the berth supplements don't apply to railcards, resulting in their being very little difference between the normal "offer" prices.

Email confirmation is intriguing. Despite me thinking the origin station was Paddington it has come through as London Terminals:

London Terminals: The following London stations are available for travel with the chosen ticket:
• London Paddington (PAD)
• London Blackfriars (BFR)
• City Thameslink (CTK)
• London Cannon Street (CST)
• London Charing Cross (CHX)
• London Bridge (LBG)
• London Waterloo East (WAE)
• London Victoria (VIC)
• London Waterloo (WAT)
Travel to any other London station is not permitted with this ticket.​

Coming from St. Albans it would be convenient to purchase a "Thameslink" stations ticket and then take advantage of the "London Terminals" origin of the ticket. Is this possible? Also, why isn't Farringdon listed, as for me it would be the easiest interchange station to the Tube.

Presumably you've been sold a route:any permitted London Terminals to Penzance ticket ( + sleeper supplement) ?

Farringdon isn't a London Terminal.

It looks like they've listed the terminals for Penzance listed in the London Terminals Mapping Feed. That isn't a mandatory part of the journey planning process but in this case it seems like an accurate list of terminals from which there are permitted routes to Penzance.

Farringdon isn't a London Terminal. If you go to St Pancras and then via Farringdon you'd be leaving and then re-entering London Terminals.

Yes, that appears the case.

No change at St Pancras would be required. As I would be on Thameslink I would be able to get off at City Thameslink with a ticket from St. Albans. To me it seems pointless "doubling-back" at City Thames to change at Farringdon when i could get off at Farringdon in the first instance.

Note also that if you were to start at somewhere like City Thameslink with a London Terminals - Penzance ticket then you would need to travel to somewhere like Clapham Junction and then out via Woking. You couldn’t use it on the Underground to get to Paddington.

You wouldn't be doubling back if you used the ticket to travel from City Thameslink as you'd then be travelling via Clapham Jn, changing onto the sleeper at Reading.

I don't think it's worth saving the tube fare over the convenience of boarding the Sleeper at Paddington and saving the trundle along south west London suburban lines

That, I don't know yet, but yes, if there is no "funny cross" shown on my ticket I will accept that I can't do what I would have liked to.

If the origin is London Terminals, this does not include a cross-London transfer by London Underground.

If you want a cross-London transfer included you should buy from "Zone U12 London" (or even buy the ticket from St Albans, if available, but I am not sure what ticket you have so difficult to advise on that point)

That, I don't know yet, but yes, if there is no "funny cross" shown on my ticket I will accept that I can't do what I would have liked to.

A ticket from Zone U12 London would not include a maltese cross.

A National Rail ticket is not valid on the Underground unless it:

Has a Maltese Cross in which case it is valid for an appropriate journey between two Underground stations as part of a longer journey.

Is issued to a specific Underground station or Zone, e.g. Zone U12 London

Is a Travelcard

Is an inter-available route (e.g. Stratford - Liverpool Street)

Definitely! Clapham junction to Reading is well over an hour, and very tedious!

Outside of the rush hours from St Pancras to either Marylebone or Paddington its almost as quick to get the 205 bus from stop A across Euston Rd from the front station entrance.The £1.50 fare is def better than faffing around via Clapham Junction.

Good advice. I always find the subsurface lines really slow around there
