Following on from my post the other day where someone suggested that a new tube line should be made using part of the old Fleet Line proposal's as I was bored I decided to quickly make a brief proposal.

Like I said before this is just a bit of fun and a hypothetical proposal, that probably isn't very realistic and almost certainly won't happen.

Here is the route:

Canary Wharf,
Salter Road,
Wapping,
St Katherine Dock's
Fenchurch Street,
Cannon Street,
City Thameslink,
Aldwych,
Charing Cross,
Green Park,
Hyde Park Corner,
Knightsbridge,
Royal Albert Hall,
High Street Kensington,
Shepherd's Bush,
Shepherd's Bush Market,
Uxbridge Road,
Acton Central,
Ealing Common,
North Ealing,
Park Royal,
Alperton,
Sudbury Town,
Sudbury Hill,
South Harrow,
Rayners Lane,
Eastcote,
Ruislip Manor,
Ruislip,
Ickenham,
Hillingdon,
Uxbridge,

The advantages of this route would be improving access to the Aldwych/Fleet Street corridor, taking over the South Harrow Piccadilly branch being able to massively increase its frequency while also allowing frequency increase on the Heathrow Branch of the Piccadilly Line, providing Fenchurch Street with national rail interchange, taking pressure off the Piccadilly and Jubilee Lines.

You probably could just have one large station at Shepherd's Bush and also take out one of Green Park, Hyde Park Corner or Knightsbridge stations.

And the practicalities of building it aside, what do you think of the route, are there any changes or extensions to it you would make?

This sounds great! I would however advocate extending the eastern end beyond Canary Wharf to somewhere that doesn't have sufficient tube provision, like Barking Riverside or Thamesmead.

Thankyou for your kind words.

I will work on extending it from canary wharf, just trying to decide the best route to extend it.

As I said in the other thread, there was a plan to link either the abandoned Fleet line tunnels or the lines along the embankment to the Aldwych branch via the Kingsway tram tunnels, gradient may have been a problem though

Assuming the District Line will be going to Uxbridge and the Piccadilly to Ealing Broadway, there is probably a bit of wiggle room for something else out West.

East of Canary Wharf:
- City Airport
- Thamesmead
- Belvedere
- Erith

West of Canary Wharf:
- Rotherthite
- Tower / Fenchurch Street (joint station)
- Bank / Cannon Street (joint station)
- City Thameslink
- Aldwych
- Charing Cross
- Green Park
- Knightsbridge
- High Street Kensington
- Shepherds Bush
- Old Oak Common
- And then assuming the route of the New North, to stop at Park Royal / Hanger Lane (re-built to co-habit all lines together), Perivale, Greenford, Northolt, South Ruislip, West Ruislip, Denham, Denham Golf Club and into Gerrards Cross.

The Central Line would need to give over its depot to the new line; meaning Hainault and White City pick up the slack. It would probably also need to use less space so would have to have more trains terminating at Northolt. Chiltern Main Line would need four-tracking between Sudbury & Harrow Road and Northolt Park so that stopping trains could be overtaken then run fast from West Ruislip to Gerrards Cross (Denham etc. would be new tube line only); and then an additional four-tracking added between Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield for the same effect. Chiltern could then effectively operate a quarter-hourly Metro service alongside the new line.
