Network Rail produce a list of track charges by train type :
http://www.networkrail.co.uk/browse...harges/b - track usage price list for cp4.pdf

Network Rail produce a list of station access charges :
http://www.networkrail.co.uk/browse...e - long term charge for stations for cp4.pdf

You then have the actual running cost of the rolling stock, and this would then include fuel, maintenance, staffing
Sadly this is no longer transparent, but you could calculate this from the data on the DfT website

Thanks for this

How can I calculate maintenance and fuelling costs from the data on NRs website?

Also I'm unclear on station access charges, I don't understand what they are about :s

I'm not sure but I've worked out a way.

First of all go to http://www.railforums.co.uk/ Use the mileage calculator on the right hand side of the webpage. Simply type your origin and destination.

Then using the link 'rail-britain' kindly gave find out the cost and times it by the miles in and you should get your answer in £s.

My example is using the Class 165 which costs 6.12 pence to run then using the mileage calculator I looked up the distance from Marylebone to South Ruislip which is 11 miles. and the cost to run the train from South Ruislip to Marylebone is £67.32

Also If your interested

  • A Class 165 can go 1000 miles between each refuelling
  • A Class 220/221/222 can go 1350 miles between each refuelling

Hope this helps

On Anglia we used to allow all the 15X fleet to go 1500 miles between refuelling. At a push we would allow 1750 but not for the 153s.

Thanks

I can't find the mileage calculator?

You won't

The immature actions of a certain web forum that splintered off from this forum during February last year, which included spamming the boards with adverts, led to the mods putting in place a name switch that reads your post and changes certain words that the mods may have decided. It is used mainly for swear words but the mods took action to change this splintered sites web forum to a railforums.co.uk when it is posted.

For example, I could set up my web forum to change "142" to "Pacer scum".

So you write 142001 on the 10:00 to Leeds. Your post will state Pacer Scum001 on the 10:00 to Leeds.

So now how do I work out which trains use how much fuel, and require how much cost of maintenance per mile?
