There seemed to be a 158/0 + 150/2 and a 150/2 on its own working Cardiff to Tauntons today.

150001 is coming down from Cardiff to Exeter tonight on 2C93. Yesterday 2C93 was a 158/9 and it ended up on one of the BNP diagrams today so I am assuming 001 will do the same but only time will tell...

Sounds like they may have a few train faults elsewhere if you say that a 150/2 was paired up with a 158/0 and a 150/2 working on it’s own on Cardiff to Taunton. Interesting that you say 001 is coming down to Exeter tonight so we shall have to see what it’ll be working tomorrow...

150001 went onto one of the Exmouth to Paignton diagrams and 158798, 959 & 2x 150/2s were on BNP (19/12/19).

All three Barnstaple diagrams are 158/9s today. This morning I travelled up on 158959 and the other two are 950 and 956.

agreed, they done well for the 25 odd years that they did run where they belong, and in 5 car formation supplemented by the occasional turbo they’d continue to do well.

Yes:

• Cardiff to Taunton
• Cardiff to Portsmouth (Not many though as most are now 5 car turbos)
• Brighton diagrams are still booked for 3 car 158s also

Cl158s aren't intended to be the regular traction on the branch - the summer loadings and tight dwell times dictate that 2 x 150 will still be the intended formation on the summer services.
The 158s were cleared for operational convenience as, with the removal of the 153s from the franchise, a number of routes became '150 only', including the Gunnislake and Looe branches. The Newquay line also has a Cl158 restriction on it. 158s had already been cleared on the St Ives branch with the exception of the bay platform - with the recent works to widen the platform out, the opportunity was taken to clear them on the entire captive branch line.
They are also being re-cleared for use on the Truro-Falmouth line. The Penryn loop has been installed since 158s last worked there hence the need to validate them again.

158747 doesn't exist. The coaches from it are in 2 different 158/9s - unless they've started splitting up the 9s back into 2 car units.

They've split half of them so there are only 6 hybrids left.
158952-955/960/961 have been disbanded, meaning 158745/747/749-750/760/762/765/767/769 have been returned to original formation.

Wow, that is pleasant! I personally think if 158s are to see occasional work on the Cornish branches the Atlantic Coast Line would be best. It’s quite a long journey so some extra comfort would be well received, I think.

Are there plans for regular 158 work on the St Ives Bay Line then?

So, 143603, the unit that was damaged by waves at Dawlish a few weeks ago is currently sat at Exeter TMD waiting to move out on to the UM and do some sort of movement...

Still got tarpaulin and tape over the four windows that were smashed.

Is there a problem with sourcing windows for pacers as this seems a long delay in getting rolling stock back onto diagrams?

They aren’t cleared for Newquay.

A friend in the know said it only had low miles left until exam but needed 2 days work squeezed and st ives is a nice low mileage duty

No Brightons running due to the emergency timetable
Turbos have beeb cleared for a while and new Fratton Drivers only sign Turbos so Sprinters will become rarer in the future

When the landslide occurred between Salisbury and Romsey, GWR started operating trains between Portsmouth Harbour and Brighton arriving and departing Brighton at the normal Brighton times. This was then overtaken by the current crisis so nothing at all to Brighton now as 387star says..

166221 was the first Turbo to reach Brighton in passenger service today (Feb 24th) following their route clearance. Great Western are running their Brighton services between Brighton and Portsmouth Harbour due to the Landslip between Salisbury and Romsey today
