Good morning all and Happy New Year. I'm not sure if anyone's aware of the GWR disruption but due to a person hit by train, instead of boarding the 09:41 from Didcot Parkway to Exeter, I was sent via Reading and with my Advance Single, I was told on Twitter by GWR to board the next available train from Reading (I caught the 09:09).

Surprisingly at Reading I was on my original train (09:27 from Reading in this case) - GWR have done excellent at reducing delays where possible including keeping us up to date on the 09:27.We left Reading around 40 minutes ago (25 minutes late) and we're currently diverting via Westbury but via a loop and not reversing.

Long story short but we're expected to reach Exeter at approximately 12:00. Now I'd say that's a miracle. I'm heading to Exeter Central and I'm to board the next available train to Exeter Central.

Even if I reached Exeter by what 1pm, I couldn't do a delay repay when GWR are yet again having another bad day.

Looks like you were more than half an hour late so you can claim 50% of your advance single - not sure why you're saying you can't?

Jesus Christ mate, what do you think this is, Travelwatch? I really don’t understand why you post such twaddle.

Surely you would go via Reading anyway, as the Exeter services don't go through Didcot.
I think you're talking about the Westbury avoiding line, which is the normal route for services that don't stop at Westbury, and I don't get why the train would reverse at Westbury either?

The OP was booked on this service which is booked via Chippenham and Bristol instead of direct from Reading to Taunton.

They were able to intercept it at Reading and are describing it being sent via Westbury Loop East Junction and Hawkeridge Junction to rejoin its planned route at Bath - using a chord which avoided a reversal.

What exactly are you trying to achieve by posting this, can I just ask? I cannot see anything new in disruption and delays...

Without seeing the original itinerary for your Advance fare, it's unclear to me what the position is.

But if you are saying you were on time, based on the original itinerary, then you're quite right that you cannot claim Delay Repay and yes it does sound like GWR managed the situation really well, which is refreshing to hear these days :)

I amended your thread title as the word "today" is no longer accurate; including the date is a better bet ;)

Sorry. What I mean is I was hardly inconvenienced given the disruption and that after leaving the train at Exeter Central (12:42 from Exeter St. David's), I was on time / earlier travelling on Stagecoach buses in Exeter

The arrival at 12:00 was a mistake, sorry - spoke too soon. We got to Exeter at 12:32. I still won't do a delay repay though.

The reason I posted this was that it's a 'Trip Planning and Reports' page and I thought it comes under. Plus was keeping us up to date.

Why not? I don't know how much you paid, but you would get half the fare back, which could be useful for future trips

A bit uncalled for....

I think it's nice just to hear where everyone travels on here. I don't think the OP is trying to achieve anything in particular.

I agree. Every penny counts.

Exonian local here - G.W.R. are pretty reliable! Most of the horror stories down here are on S.W.R., while G.W.R. and their staff are generally helpful and effective when something goes wrong.

I highly suggest claiming if you're entitled to it, even if you then just donate the money to charity. I'm guessing this isn't a trivial amount either so it's probably worth the time

That's worth a thought actually, thank you :)! I'll ask GWR that when it's a good time.
