East Coast website day return bug?

Want to do 22:56 EDB-SLA tonight and return at 00:21. The East Coast website greys out the CDR when I thought CDRs were valid until 02:30 the following day? I've checked Avantix and this is certainly what it says.

Using the EC website, I get £2.40 Off Peak Day Return & £2.90 Anytime Day Return on those services, nothing is greyed (apart from 17:23 ex EDB on Off Peak)

It sounds fine to me.
Just an error with the ticket systems.

When I put the details in with railcard discount (to see what happened) and the Return Date as 29th, It greyed out the Railcard Discounted Off Peak Day Return but still showed the Non-discounted at £2.40 for said trains.

Therefore it's applying minimum fare between 0000-0230 on tickets bought the previous day.

Putting in the 30th as the return date blanks out everything but Anytime Singles.

Although a ticket is valid until 0230 the next day, is there anything that mentions the minimum fare for railcards, an easement or something?

Just wondering whether the min fare applies from 00:00am to 10:00am M-F.

I know for certain that I have travelled on trains after midnight with a ticket bought using my railcard. The boarding time in all previous cases just happened to be before midnight and the journey ran into the next day. I refuse to believe that passengers who boarded my train at an earlier stop could travel and I couldn't, so I'm going to go for it and pay the 40p excess if I get a gripper who doesn't engage common sense.

The issue about railcards is interesting - is the rule that on a weekday you can't use a restricted railcard between 00.00 and (say) 10.00, or between 02.30 and (say) 10.00?

Young persons, and I think HM Forces railcards have a minimum fares rule, which states that, whilst the railcard can be used before 10:00, there is a minimum fare of £12 on all walk up tickets which obviously means that for many short distance journeys the railcard effectively can't be used before 10:00. In the case of YP railcards, this rule does not apply in July or August. I am not sure on the restriction for advance tickets or rovers. Many people wrongly believe that the railcard can't be used at all before 10:00. My interpretation is if you buy your ticket before midnight, and it would ordinarily be valid until 02:30, then you are valid with your discount, but if you buy after midnight then the minimum fare rule applies. Also, Network Railcards and Network Gold cards are not valid at all before 10:00 on weekdays.

When you buy the ticket is irrelevant. One is perfectly entitled to buy a ticket at 9am without the railcard minimum fare applying for travel on a service after 10am. I've known some stations argue differently (which for 1002 booked departures is absurd) but they are wrong.

With regards to travel between 0000-0230, the terms and conditions only state "12 minimum fare applies for journeys made at or before 10am Monday to Friday [excluding bank holidays, July and August]" and even The Manual only references "Before 10:00 Monday-Friday".

Strictly, it would appear that you are not entitled to use a railcard after 00:00 if the minimum fare should have applied to your fare. However, given that you are effectively travelling the day before (the validity date is the 'previous' day), it would seem reasonable to also assume that the 10:00 rule applies to that day and thus travel is valid. You'd certainly have a strong case in court.
