Applied, fingers crossed.

Northern has been very slow when I have previously applied, curious to see if it's the same again.

How strict are they on the 45 min rule? Interested in the Newcastle one but I'm just outside 45 mins away (50ish under normal traffic conditions), but Transpennine, who are also recruiting at Newcastle, have a 60 minute drive from depot requirement under normal traffic conditions.

I personally would still apply if it's just a few minuets difference.

Good luck. I too have applied for northern on several occasions in the past and have never made it past the paper sift. Not sure what else i can do to overcome this as other TOC's have progressed my application further so i'm guessing my CV and cover letter are up to standard?

I applied yesterday and got a rejection email today. I'm surprised to hear so soon and surprised I've been rejected at this stage as I used the same cv, letter and answers that got me previously through a NR shift. Hey ho. At least I know

I think i'm correct in saying that you need to wait 6 months after being rejected to reapply to northern. If you applied recently and got rejected that might be why you received such a rapid response, they just discounted your application.

I applied for a trainee conductor post with Northern based at Manchester Victoria in April this year and I had a rejection e-mail within a couple of weeks. I was advised that I couldn't reapply for any upcoming conductor vacancies for the next six months.

Fast forward, to the 4th October and I submitted a new trainee conductor application which was again rejected by HR but to date I have never had any correspondence from Northern - I learned about my fate when logging on to my account on the Deutsche Bahn site and it was marked 'End Of Process'.

I had of course altered a lot of the content on both my CV and Cover Letter second time around but this was still not good enough. However, as I didn't quite leave it a full six months to the date (I think it may have actually been 5 months 2 weeks between reapplying) I suspect I could very have been rejected for not leaving it the full six months. It sounds a little pedantic but HR have to be very robust in their decision making when whittling down canidates.

All I will say is just keep plugging away and trying your best. I've had countless rejections over the last few months and it is a case of just keep applying for stuff.

Regards

CJ

I have applied to the Blackburn post. It says I will get a response in 2-4 weeks. Took me ages last night.

The 2-4 weeks is just a guide. Can and normally does take longer in my experience.

That only applies if you reach the testing/DMI stages, not the initial paper sifts

I applied for Newcastle depot driver just a month ago and was rejected so I'll be curious to see if they reject this application because they want me to wait 6 months. Not sure.

Recently applied for this one, got through the two online tests not heard anything else so far, this was about a week ago so i’m not expecting to hear anything for a while yet. Also applied for the Firstgroup vacancies, that was about 3-4 weeks ago, not heard anything either from that.

Just applied for the Newcastle position. First time applicant and have to admit it’s taken ages to get the c.v, covering letter and online app. done. At least I’ve got them banked for future use!
Good luck everyone

Applied for the Newcastle job last night. Did it all online but got an email this morning saying I've not provided all information, with the DB jobs site saying Application Received and only letting me retract the application, which I don't want to do!

You don't do online tests for Northern Drivers so if you’e had to do them you might want to check what role you have applied for.

Make sure you uploaded both the CV and covering letter. I got the same message and was missing the CV, even though i had uploaded it to the actual site prior to applying.

I didn't upload anything, just filled in their online form with all the details that would be on my CV and answered the questions after doing that.

Did you not attach files with your cv, cover letter and references?

Ah sorry i was thinking it was the Arriva you had applied to, thats the process i’m on about. Is it this campaign you applied for?

Yeah that's where the live vacancies link on Northern's website took me, and I applied through there.

Did you not attach files with your cv, cover letter and references?

It gives you the option to do that but lets you apply without doing it. Figured it was a duplication of effort filling in the online form with all your details AND uploading a CV.

I did both in the end, just to be on the safe side

I'd be weary mind, it stated on the job advert to attach a cv and cover letter. If you're able to go back and amend your application get a cover letter in with it.
